In order to prevent excessive roughness on the field, the NFL is vigilant about enforcing player conduct standards in the league. Nevertheless, the veteran of the San Francisco 49ers Trent Williams seems to be taking little notice of upholding these necessary regulations.
Williams again attracted attention for his inappropriate violence with the players of the opposing side during Thursday Night Football between the New York Giants and 49ers, despite receiving an unfavorable mention for it last season.
Trent Williams’ vicious hook stuns the NFL community
With a win-hungry attitude, the 49ers defeated the Giants 30-12 in Week 3 to earn their 13th consecutive victory during the regular season. Although the game was an enjoyable one for the 49ers supporters as they secured a victory, the match garnered negative attention for the team as their All-Pro left tackle got into a physical altercation with Giants A’Shawn Robinson.
Robinson gave Williams an unanticipated bit of a rush on the play during the game’s opening period, which resulted in the unwelcome incident. Williams then shoved back in retaliation after losing control of his rage. Both players confronted one another as a result of the ensuing tension.
Though their teammates eventually intervened to stop them by separating the two, Williams seemed unable to control his rage and did not allow the event to be treated as a routine one. The enraged 49ers player struck angrily at A’Shawn’s facemask.
The veteran player who just had back-to-back first-team All-Pro seasons for the Niners, shocked the 49ers fans with needless aggression.
Trent Williams’ chances of receiving a fine or suspension
The heated situation between Trent Williams and Robbinson suggested that both were somehow guilty of creating the scene. Hence both of them received counterpunching penalties for unnecessary roughness.
However, the 35-year-old was one step ahead in this regard, and his conduct demanded an ejection from the game. Fortunately, he was not called for an ejection, saving the 49ers from losing their ten-time Pro Bowler midgame. Yet, he shouldn’t feel satisfied for that, as there’s a high chance the NFL will fine him within the coming week.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was also a subject of unnecessary roughness during their Week-2 game. Though he was not penalized on the field, the NFL recently declared a hefty fine for the quarterback. Same could be the case for Trent Williams.
Trent Williams was in the spotlight for his unwarranted roughness the season before when he was fined and sent to the locker room for flinging K’Von Wallace to the ground. Prior to that, in 2013 following a playoff game, he punched Seattle Seahawks defender Richard Sherman. He also had to pay a sizable sum in fines at that time for his behavior.
