As the timing of clinching the Lombardi Trophy draws near, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, are seemingly jeopardizing their place in the race for this coveted dream. After losing to the Jordan Love-led Green Bay Packers in Week 13, the Chiefs’ losing streak continued in Week 14 as well after letting the Buffalo Bills rule over them.

This should not be a scenario for the defending Super Bowl champion. The game took a turning point in the last moment of the game, yet it went in favor of the Bills, letting the Chiefs starter direct all his anger on the refs of the game. Mahomes’ criticism of a disputed call led to significant backlash from NFL fans.

Why has Patrick Mahomes lashed out at NFL refs?

In the nail-biting showdown between the Bills and Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, a rollercoaster of emotions unfolded in the final minutes, letting Patrick Mahomes’ team leave the field with a heartbreaking loss.

The turning point came with an offensive offside penalty on receiver Kadarius Toney. It could have been a game-winning touchdown off an incredible lateral from Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The penalty proved decisive, derailing the Chiefs’ chance for a memorable victory.

Patrick Mahomes, renowned for his composure and prowess on the field, found it challenging to conceal his frustration after the game.

“For it to happen, for a flag to change the outcome of the game. And that moment, I mean, I’ve played seven years and never had offensive offsides called.”

Pat’s frustration echoed the sentiments of Chiefs players and fans alike, as the penalty not only wiped away a potential go-ahead touchdown but also pushed the team out of range for a tying field goal. The subsequent failed fourth-down conversion marked the end of the Chiefs’ comeback attempt.

For Mahomes, it was “tough” that left him in awe to express his emotion in words. Then, he candidly expressed his disappointment with the Chiefs’ reliance on a contentious officiating decision rather than the game itself.

“It’s tough, man. I’m at a loss for words because regardless of whether we win or lose, just at the end of the day, another game, and we’re talking about the refs, Not what we really want in the NFL for football.”

Apart from the two-time MVP, Chiefs coach Andy Reid also highlighted the controversial call in his post-match press conference, mentioning it was unprecedented at such a turning point in the game.

With the loss, the Chiefs placed themselves at 8-5 and have now lost three of their last four games.
