Adonai Mitchell has officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, marking the second impactful departure from the team within a week. His fellow teammate Xavier Worthy announced his draft days ago.
The WR, a notable addition from the transfer portal during the 2023 cycle, swiftly secured a starting position despite the stiff competition within the Longhorns’ receiving corps. Hailing from Georgia, he expressed gratitude towards both Texas and his former program.
The young star acknowledged the support from Coach Sark and the entire University of Texas community, as well as the bond he experienced at Georgia in a social media statement.
“I’m grateful to Coach Sark and all of the University of Texas community for making me feel like a Longhorn for life in such a short time. And to all the Bulldog fans, my amazing coaches, my brothers on the field, the legendary 2021 class. We made history together. I love all of y’all”, Mitchell wrote in a statement.
The WR position in the upcoming 2024 draft is teeming with talent, featuring notable names like Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State and Malik Nabers of LSU. Adonai Mitchell also stands out by getting positioned at No. 30 overall and ranking as the sixth-best receiver in CBS Sports’ 2024 NFL Draft Prospect Rankings.
Adonai Michell and Xavier Worthy’s performances for Texas Longhorn
Both Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy have emerged as key players for the Longhorns during the 2023 season. Mitchell brought with him a winning pedigree from his time in Georgia. Having secured back-to-back national titles, he seamlessly integrated into the Texas lineup, and became instrumental in their journey to the college football playoffs.
Adonai Mitchell’s lone season with the Longhorns saw him amassing 55 catches for 845 yards along with 11 touchdowns. He showcased his prowess with 38 catches for 560 yards as well as seven touchdowns during his two years with the Georgia Bulldogs. The receiver maintained a consistent streak of scoring at least one touchdown in all five playoff games throughout his career.
Teaming up with Mitchell, Xavier Worthy delivered a standout performance, and marked the apex of his college career during the 2023 season. He hauled in an impressive 75 passes, 1,014 yards along with five touchdowns. The WR’s three-year tenure with the Longhorns witnessed him recording a total of 197 catches, 2,755 yards, and 26 touchdowns.
