NFL Draft 2024: Fans want Bears to stick with Justin Fields amid Caleb Williams trade rumors

Following a disappointing 3-14 record last season and failing to make the playoffs, the Chicago Bears’ struggle continues this season as well, with their star starter Justin Fields at the helm. As the success of a team often brings praise to their starting quarterback, a prolonged losing streak sparks concerns about the quarterback’s legacy and job security as well.

There have been whispers that Caleb Williams is being considered by the Bears as a possible answer to the team’s problems. This proposed transfer, however, has sparked outrage among the fans.

Fans want Bear to not replace Justin Fields

While the Bears have the opportunity to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft thanks to the Bryce Young trade with the Carolina Panthers, there is a difference of opinion between analysts who believe a college standout should replace Fields and loyal Chicago fans who are hesitant to prematurely end Fields’s legacy based on this season.

This sentiment has become evident on social media, with many fans expressing their discontent.

Even though Caleb made a significant impact to USC, many fans are worried he’ll be a flop in the draft and would rather see Fields keep his starting quarterback position.

“Stick with justin fields. Caleb williams is going to be a bust,” one comment read.

With the Bears standing at a 7-9 record and out of playoff contention, team morale has taken a hit. Fans, wary of the disappointing season, are cautious about introducing a new quarterback, whether it be Marvin Harrison Jr. or Caleb Williams, fearing it could exacerbate the team’s struggles.

“Stick with Fields 100%. Adding MHJ or trading back and getting another star from another team plus more picks is how you build a team. The fans and players do not want a new qb,” one fan left this comment.

One supporter of the Bears even went so far as to say that the team should surprise Fields with a fair contract extension to give him a confidence boost. They should reconsider picking the USC standout if he demands more.

The Bears starter had an impressive season, playing in 12 games and accumulating 2,414 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. In his least impressive performance of the season during Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings, he managed to gain 58 yards and failed to score any touchdowns while also throwing one interception.

Caleb Williams rumored to join the Bears

The upcoming 2024 NFL draft has quarterback Caleb Williams in the spotlight, with many touting him as the best quarterback available due to his impressive record at USC. The Chicago Bears, currently grappling with offensive struggles, are rumored to be closely monitoring Williams, who recently burst into tears after a loss, as a potential solution. With the chance to secure the No. 1 overall pick, the Bears are expected to consider Williams to revitalize their offense.

Interestingly, amid the buzz surrounding a possible collaboration with the Bears, Williams appears to have reservations. On Christmas Eve, he liked a tweet suggesting that the Bears should opt for star receiver Marvin Harrison instead of drafting him, per CBS Sports. This has stirred speculation about Williams’ preferences and his willingness to be a part of the Bears’ lineup.

Williams has an impressive track record, having won the 2022 Heisman Trophy and earning the title of Unanimous All-American last season. His college football stats are impressive, recording 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. Williams has been an exceptional performer for more than two seasons, demonstrating all the skills that one would anticipate in a highly regarded quarterback prospect.

Even sports commentator Skip Bayless has expressed optimism about Williams’ future in the NFL. Nevertheless, a lingering concern on his resume is his win-loss record, a factor that could potentially influence the Bears’ decision.

Furthermore, the USC star previously demanded part of the ownership of the team that will draft him, which echoes the rumored demand of New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers.

Will the Bears take the chance on this electric quarterback, or will they heed the suggestions to focus on a star receiver? Only time will tell as the anticipation builds around the dynamic USC star’s potential NFL journey.
