Despite getting undrafted, Tommy DeVito stole the chance to have his NFL dream come true with the New York Giants after they added him to their roster following the draft selection. Till then, the quarterback has not had any opportunity to showcase his qualities, yet the unfortunate season-ending injury of Daniel Jones paved the way for him to be the first rookie to start for the Giants in the modern draft era.
As the cameras are now set on the new starter, the NFL fans are eager to learn about the new starter’s off-field activities, and in this regard, they found something that they could not contain their laughter about.
DeVito’s living arrangement sparks fans’ side-splitting roasts
Though on the field, Tommy DeVito has already projected to rob Jones’s’ place, off the field, the quarterback is yet to enjoy his freedom in a lone residence. DeVito, according to a story by ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, is still living comfortably at his childhood home; perhaps he sees himself as not old enough to handle the hardships on his own.
As soon as the news reached the fans, they began to flock together with witty responses for the starter, urging him to leave his parents’ arms.
“Grown ahh man,’ one fan taunted.
The thing that stunned his fans was mostly his life settings, while his parents still used to take care of all of his stuff, from laundry to making beds. With the statement, he left nothing for the fans without mentioning him as the irresponsible one.
The starter is yet to start his NFL career, while just the news led one fan to predict a short tenure for the player, who commented, “Ummmmm yeah he’s not going to be in this league for long lol”.
Nevertheless, NFL fans perhaps would not have attacked him if he had not bragged, presenting his parents as the caretakers of himself.
How much does Tommy DeVito make with the Giants?
Back in May, after getting undrafted, Tommy DeVito signed a 1-year, $750,000 contract with the Giants, as per Sportac. His deal includes an average annual salary of $750,000 to serve as Daniel Jones’ backup.
This season, the rookie player is set to pocket a base salary of $750,000 while carrying a cap hit of $416,667. That is a standard contract for an undrafted free-agent quarterback, which is essentially a prove-it deal for the season.
Prior to his NFL journey, DeVito left his mark at the University of Illinois by scoring 2,650 yards, recording 15 touchdown passes, and limiting interceptions to just four.
His tenacity and resolve paid off, as he was later added back to the practice squad and emerged as the Giants’ best chance of starting an undrafted rookie.
