The Baltimore Ravens and Odell Beckham Jr. are having a good season with a 5-2 mark while topping the AFC North. The wide receiver alongside Rashod Bateman, Nelson Agholor and Zay Flowers, who received a staggering signing bonus this season, has been doing a magnificent job in the receiver’s room.
Meanwhile, after missing the entire 2022 season due to recovering from a knee injury, Beckham Jr. has been embroiled in a setback once again. Besides the physical and mental blow to recover from constant injuries, the WR has also faced a financial blow after getting fined by the NFL with a hefty sum.
Odell Beckham Jr. faces third fine in two games
During the Ravens’ vs the Detroit Lions’ contest on Sunday, Beckham delivered a hit on the opposite team’s safety Kerby Joseph. He lowered his head before making a helmet-to-helmet contact. No flag was called at the moment, albeit OBJ was later slapped with a $21,844 fine due to the unnecessary roughness call, via NBC Sports.
Following the hit, Joseph had to leave the game to get evaluated for a potential concussion. Meanwhile, it marks the second time this season for the Ravens’ receiver to digest a hefty sum, and it is his third fine as well.
The former LSU receiver had to embrace $33,317 in fines for two unnecessary roughness violations. It includes a $11,473 fine that was imposed due to his action of taking exception to a hit by the Tennessee Titans veteran Jeffery Simmons on the Ravens’ wide receiver Zay Flowers. Following the match, he said Simmons delivered a low hit, and that he just wanted to protect Zay.
“It’s nothing really to talk about. It’s probably a small hot topic right now, but it’s good. We got a helmet, shoulder pads. We’re out here playing football. This is not MMA. I watched him look at the play, then look at Zay’s legs and kind of dive on it. I just didn’t like that. I’m going to protect him.”
Besides this, the $33,317 amount includes a $21,844 fine that was imposed on the 30-year-old in the Week 6 game.
Odell returns to practice report with shoulder a injury
Beckham did not return to the Ravens game against the Joe Burrow-led Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 after suffering an injury. He spent five weeks on the team’s practice report with the injury and even missed two games in the meantime. Head coach John Harbaugh earlier said he didn’t believe the injury was scary.
The three-time Pro Bowler has also been limited by a shoulder injury that he sustained during practice. The vet has not been listed on the Ravens’ Wednesday practice report, but he has been added to it on Thursday. Fortunately, he holds no injury designation following returning for a full practice on Friday. Despite getting plagued by injuries, he is coming off one of his best performances this season, picking up five out of seven targets for 49 yards against the Lions in Week 7.
