NFL Injury News: Weeks after suffering concussion against Steeler, Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly fit to play vs Packers

The Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels brought his familiar face Jimmy Garoppolo from the San Fransisco 49ers to boost his team’s quarterback position. However, his debut season so far has not gone as expected as the Raiders have been able to grasp only one win.

Amid these hard times, McDaniels had to digest another setback as his franchise quarterback was hard hit by a serious injury that kept him out of their Week 4 game. Nevertheless, before their next week’s battle, the Raiders have received good news on the game status of Garoppolo.

Jimmy Garoppolo fit to play against the Packers

On September 24, Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a concussion whilst playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. The Raiders ruled him out on Saturday night after taking into account his circumstances. As a result, he was unable to accompany his team to Los Angeles for “Monday Night Football” action versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

Therefore, it was uncertain whether he would play in the Raiders’ Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers. Fortunately, the quarterback has passed the concussion protocol and will be hitting the field at Allegiant Stadium to face the Green Bay Packers.

It’s a fantastic news for Packers supporters, who saw the value of Jimmy in their quarterback room after Aidan O’Connell, a rookie, began in Garoppolo’s stead against the Chargers. O’Connell upset the entire offensive that evening by becoming the first player to experience seven sacks since the statistic began to be kept in 1963.

After signing the starter to a three-year, $72.75 million contract in March, the Las Vegas franchise had high expectations for Garoppolo upon his arrival.

How did Jimmy Garoppolo get injured?

Just before halftime against the Steelers, Jimmy Garoppolo was tackled by Steelers defender T.J. Watt and twisted awkwardly as he hit the ground. Later, after being examined by trainers on the sideline, he was seen staggering off the field. During the second half, he returned to the locker room and later joined the Raiders.

Before his status was confirmed, the dual-threat quarterback took part in a limited amount of Raiders practice. Garoppolo revealed the situation personally after the game, stating he was not unsure when he actually suffered the concussion.

“But it was really just after the game, the docs grabbed me, started going through it. Next thing I knew, I was in the protocol. It’s a weird situation. We got through it.”

The Raiders team will benefit from his game status against the Packers, as he has passed for 709 yards and completed 68.1% of his passes for five touchdowns in three games.
