The NFL offseason is buzzing with speculation and potential moves, and one name that has recently surfaced in the rumor mill is Quez Watkins. The wide receiver has been a notable figure on the Philadelphia Eagles roster. Philly has recently agreed to terms with DeVante Parker as their third wide receiver.
The signing of Parker as the receiver for Jalen Hurts prompts Watkins departure from the squad. However, the footballer is stirring interest from multiple NFL teams, with both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins eyeing him for potential roster additions.
Quez Watkins attracts interest from Chiefs and Dolphins
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald disclosed that the Dolphins have expressed interest in Quez Watkins, among other free agent receivers, via NFL Trade Rumors. They witnessed notable departures from their receiving corps, including Cedrick Wilson Jr., Chase Claypool, and River Cracraft. The team is now on the hunt for reliable targets to complement Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who collectively dominated the passing game last season. Hill was even the MVP frontrunner last season.
The Dolphins are even exploring the possibility of adding Michael Thomas, spurred on by social media recruitment efforts from none other than Tyreek Hill himself. However, Watkins remains in the rumor mill.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs, fresh from signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, are still in the market for wide receiver talent. They are aware of their need for further upgrades in the wake of disappointing performances from existing players like Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney.
The Chiefs’ struggles in the regular season due to deficiencies in the receiving corps are well documented. While the addition of Hollywood Brown is undoubtedly a step in the right direction, it is evident that more reinforcements are required. Quez Watkins emerges as a viable option to fortify their receiving arsenal and provide Patrick Mahomes with additional reliable targets.
Quez Watkins 2023 NFL season in numbers
Quez Watkins didn’t start many games for the Eagles in the 2023 season and only got targeted 21 times. He made quite an impression on the team with 15 receptions and a touchdown.
The 25-year-old player had a tough time, ending up on the bench during the latter part of the season. But he really made a big difference in the regular-season finale against the New York Giants, grabbing 8 catches for 93 yards.
The wide receiver recorded 98 receptions, 1,249 yards, and six touchdowns over his tenure with the Eagles. However, he has experienced setbacks along the way, including a crucial pass dropped against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl two seasons prior that might have changed the outcome of the game for Philadelphia.
