NFL Rumors: Former Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco to join Raiders after Antonio Pierce meeting

Although Cincinnati Bengals supporters have become accustomed to witnessing the talents of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, many may not be familiar with Chad Ochocinco, who once posed a significant threat to opposing teams.

Due to his brief tenure in the NFL, the former wide receiver harbored a strong desire for a comeback in the professional football. Nevertheless, while the possibility of realizing this dream as a player is slim, Ochocinco has recently found a new home with a different role for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Chad Ochocinco announces new job role in Raiders

Chad Ochocinco has landed a new role within the football world. With NFL teams actively strengthening their coaching staff for the upcoming season, Ochocinco has secured a position with the Raiders.

The former player announced the news on Instagram and conveyed his excitement about joining the Raiders organization. Nevertheless, he clarified that his role is undefined, and he won’t be part of the coaching staff.

“Yes, I got a job with the #Raiders. Not as a Staff Member but as a member of the Organization… I’m not sure what it is exactly yet. But I will be a part of the team and that’s an amazing thing,” he shared in an Instagram Live session.

The news of Ochocinco’s employment with the Raiders came after a dinner meeting with Raiders new head coach Antonio Pierce. In a social media post, he revealed his intention to request a job with the Raiders during the dinner.

“Having dinner with Antonio Pierce & I’m going to ask for a job with the Raiders in some capacity to help diversify my portfolio/resume, this would be my 39th job if all goes well,” he wrote.

While the specifics of Ochocinco’s role remain undisclosed, there is speculation that he has been brought on board as an advisor rather than a coach, working under the leadership of Antonio Pierce. Throughout his post-NFL career, Ochocinco has explored various ventures, including media and non-football sports.

Looking back at Chad Ochocinco’s NFL career

Chad Ochocinco made a lasting impact on the NFL throughout his career from 2001 to 2011. Drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft, he quickly became a household name with his flashy playstyle and entertaining personality.

During his ten-year stint with the Bengals, he garnered multiple accolades, including six Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro honors. He was also inducted into the Bengals Ring of Honor.

In 2011, Ochocinco’s journey with the Bengals concluded as he was traded to the New England Patriots. Nevertheless, his time in New England was short-lived, and he soon found himself with the Miami Dolphins during the 2012 preseason. Unfortunately, his NFL career took a turn when he was released from the Dolphins following his arrest for domestic violence.

Throughout his NFL career, the former All Pro amassed 766 receptions, totaling 11,059 receiving yards, with an average of 14.4 yards per reception. Remarkably, he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in seven seasons.

Following his NFL tenure, Ochocinco moved to the Canadian Football League (CFL), where he suited up for the Montreal Alouettes from 2014 to 2015. Despite his time away from the gridiron, he remained in the public eye, appearing on the VH1 reality dating show titled “Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch.”

It remains to be seen whether he can successfully fulfill his new role under new head coach’s guidance.
