The Philadelphia Eagles 2023 season didn’t go well like the 2022 season. They were finalists in Super Bowl LVII, but the 2023 season told a different narrative about this formidable squad. They got embroiled in a losing streak, prompting internal concerns about Jalen Hurts’ leadership.
The Eagles are now trying to revamp their squad to move on from the disappointing season. Signing running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year deal earlier this week was a big move in their pursuit of success. The team made another significant move by enrolling former New England Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker.
Eagles to bring in DeVante Parker
The Eagles have bolstered their receiving corps by signing DeVante Parker to a one-year, $4.69 million, fully guaranteed deal. The agreement was brokered by agent Jimmy Gould and confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It brings the wide receiver to the Eagles’ nest, with the New England Patriots footing a portion of the bill. Philly will pay only $1.2 million of his deal, and the Pats will pay the rest.
“DeVante is thrilled and grateful to become a Philadelphia Eagle and to help this elite organization win a championship,” Gould said.
Following a stint with the Patriots that failed to meet expectations, Parker’s departure from the team was imminent. The team attempted to trade him, but he was ultimately released on Monday after the team restructured his contract last summer.
The ex-Patriots star’s arrival in the Philly squad signifies a notable addition to the Eagles’ roster, providing a veteran presence in the receiving corps. He is poised to alleviate some of the pressure on wide receivers DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown.
However, the Eagles’ quest for a reliable third wide receiver has been ongoing. Previous attempts with Quez Watkins and Julio Jones fell short. The contracts of Jones, Watkins, and Olamide Zaccheaus are also expiring, leaving a void that Parker aims to fill.
DeVante Parker 2023 NFL season in numbers
DeVante Parker finished the 2023 season with 33 receptions for 394 yards and zero touchdown catches. The wide receiver, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 215 pounds, brought his experience and athleticism to the team after spending the first seven years of his career with the Miami Dolphins.
The veteran was acquired by the Patriots in April 2022 in exchange for a third-round pick. He had an impressive debut season in 2022, averaging 17.4 yards per catch and concluding with 539 yards along with three touchdowns. However, the Patriots faced challenges by posting a combined win-loss record of 12-22 over Parker’s two seasons with the team.
DeVonta Parker’s career resume includes a notable 1,000-yard season. He has amassed 402 receptions for 5,660 yards alongside 27 touchdowns throughout his 119 regular-season games.
