With the NFL offseason in full swing, franchises are gearing up for the upcoming season with renewed vigor and infectious zeal, which has hyped up the entire NFL community across the country. Outfits are also looking at new talent available on the market that might boost their ranks in the future.
Among the experienced players available on the trade market was Sam Howell, whose recent trade to a championship contender next season will surely send the turnstiles clicking. One of the most sought-after prospects this season, the former Washington Commander has been a hot commodity throughout the last couple of years.
Sam Howell joins Seahawks
Over the last couple of seasons, the Seattle Seahawks have struggled to fill the void in the QB position. Their lackluster performances were a testament to their struggles behind the scenes, and the administration looked to rectify that before the upcoming season.
The first order of business was signing a reliable QB in Sam Howell, and that is exactly what the Seahawks have managed to achieve.
The Seahawks are sending one of their two third-round picks (No. 78 overall) and a fifth rounder (No. 152) to Washington in exchange for Howell, a fourth-round pick (No. 102) and a sixth-round pick (No. 179).
Sam Howell included in various drafts awaiting a physical
The Seahawks have made a few more marquee signings over the course of this season. However, their general manager, John Schneider, has been vocal about his love for the 23-year-old and talked about the reasoning behind this trade.
Per ESPN, he said, “He had a great day against us this past fall. He’s a quarterback but he’s really a football player. That’s what I love about him. Really tough, young. He’s 23 years old and has 18 starts in the league already. He’s the same age as like [Jayden] Daniels from LSU and [Spencer] Rattler and [Michael] Penix [Jr.], and he’s a year younger than Bo Nix.”
He continued, “We were just really excited to be able to acquire him. We know he’s a serious dude. He’s into it, he works his tail off. We got great reviews on him and we loved him coming out of college. So yeah, we’re happy to get him in the mix. Geno’s the guy and Sam will be backing him up.”
Pending a physical examination, the final confirmation of this trade still hangs in the balance. What are your thoughts on this trade? Do you think Howell would be a good fit to the Seahawks’ lineup? Let us know in the comments below.
