NFL Trade Rumors: Saints capture ex-Chiefs RB Darrel Williams as injured Kendre Miller replacement

After his one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals was over, Darrel Williams is badly in search of a new destination. And it looks like he found his new team already, as following Kendre Miller’s injury, the New Orleans Saints required assistance at running back.

Both parties were able to live up to their expectations as the Saints offered the former Cardinals player a deal, which he accepted to determine where he would be playing next.

Darrel Williams reportedly agrees to Saints deal

The Saints went totally clueless regarding their running back depth as with losing Miller for a few days, they are also set to miss out on Alvin Kamara. Kamara has been suspended for three regular-season games by the NFL because of his involvement in a fight in Las Vegas.

Hence, it prompted the team to take an initiative action, and they requested Kylin Hill and Williams to work out for them Monday. The Saints reached a decision to sign one of them and they end up signing the former Cardinals star player.

The 28-year-old is heading into his six-season and started his NFL journey with the Kansas City Chiefs and remained under their wings for the first four seasons. Last season, he played as a backup running back for the Cardinals amassing 25 touches for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Williams played in 57 games over the course of his career, ensuring seven starts, running for 1,014 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Injury update on Kendre Miller

Miller injured him in the preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs in the third quarter and was forced to leave the field with a sprained right knee. Following that, it was determined that he did not sustain a serious injury because of the injury. The squad was initially alarmed by Millers’ injury because the rookie’s final season at TCU was cut short by a meniscus tear in his right knee.

Report: Kendre Miller 'expected to miss a week or two' with knee injury

The team’s final preseason game is in two weeks, so the No. 3 running back is anticipated to be available by that time. Ideally, it is expected that he won’t be sidelined for too long. Prior to the injury, their backup veteran player Eno Benjamin sustained an Achilles injury during training camp.

Jamaal Williams may take over the backfield duties behind New Orleans’ offensive line after Kamaras’ suspension while Darrel and undrafted rookie Ellis Merriweather may compete for Miller’s backup position.
