Nick Kyrgios claims he made “more money for everyone” in tennis as feud with Boris Becker enters sixth day

A war of words has erupted between Nick Kyrgios and tennis legend Boris Becker. The outspoken Aussie, who is never afraid to give his honest and often brutal opinions has been spitting out his venomous words since this month began. However, tennis fans were intrigued by their outspokenness at first but have become disgusted by the point of their argument.

The major problem of discussion here has been whether to respect the past players who worked to make the game what is now or embrace modern tennis and laugh at the past. Both players stand on contrasting sides.

Nick Kyrgios claims his Netflix show boots tennis revenue

Nick Kyrgios the publicity hound has just widened the scope of his sledging match with another tweet against legend Boris Becker claiming that he’s the biggest drawcard ever to grace the court. The injured tennis player has not played for a year and doesn’t look set to return to the ATP after losing his ranking but had convenient time to take a jab at the six-time Grand Slam champion German on social media.

Nick Kyrgios’s reaction on X was a response to Becker’s statement that the greats of the 1980s paved the way for the mega-paid players of the current era. “It’s simple, you have to respect the past of our sport, in addition to publicly thanking the former players.”, Becker wrote.

“You must be grateful that they existed: without them, the tennis circus would not continue to exist, there have never been so many monetary prizes and there has never been as much publicity as there is today. Why? For the legends of this sport. All these players made it possible for Nick Kyrgios not to play tennis all year round and that, even so, he can make a living with this sport.”

However, Nick Kyrgios, who featured in a Netflix tennis fly-on-the-wall episode last season, was quick to fire back with a sledge, “Bro what I’ve been one of the FEW PLAYERS that have brought million more fans to the sport and have made more money for everyone NETFLIX…. Don’t remember seeing Boris on there guy is ridiculous. I’ve made my career off the court without the help of the others.”

How did the feud between Nick Kyrgios-Boris Becker start?

The six-time Grand Slam champion has called out Australia’s bad boy, picking up on some of his latest comments comparing Becker’s generation of tennis players to the present day.

It all began when Kyrgios made a subtle dig at Becker in a conversation with The Athletic saying, “The game was so slow back then. I’ve watched Boris Becker and I’m not saying they weren’t good in their time, but to say that they would be just as good now, it’s absurd.”

In response, Becker mentioned Kyrgios on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Nick makes a lot of noise about tennis lately!?! Why does he speak about a sport he hates.” The German added that Nick Kyrgios has never won a Grand Slam as a player except his single Australian Open doubles title in 2022 with Thanasi Kokkinakis, which makes him have little credibility in the tennis.

The former world No 1 signed off with a fiery dig at the Australian, declaring that he should, “Speak to your OnlyFans about many things but tennis.” As expected, Kyrgios responded with a no-holds-barred tirade against Becker. “Hahahaha this bloke speaking about credibility… Last I checked you were the one hiding assets no? Basically 99 percent of the tennis tour doesn’t have credibility then?”

However, Boris Becker has been enjoying life as a coach of Holger Rune while Nick Kyrgios doesn’t have a return date to tennis after missing the 2023 season due to injury.
