“Nothing has changed”: Max Verstappen teammate Sergio Perez unfazed by ex-McLaren driver’s target of Red Bull seat

Red Bull’s second driver, Sergio Perez, has been consistently performing poorly this season, failing to reach Q3 five straight times. His worst came when he was disqualified in Q1, as he only put in the 16th fastest lap in the British Grand Prix.

Sergio Perez was recruited by Red Bull back in 2020 when he found himself without a seat after being dropped by Aston Martin Racing at that time. Racing Point team owner Lawrence Streisand and former team principal Ottmar Szafnauer decided that four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel would be a better choice.

Perez Not Worried by Ricciardo’s Return

Sergio Perez has currently been running second in the Formula One World Championship table but with a points difference of 99 between him and his teammate Max Verstappen in P1.

Daniel RicciardoWith news of ex-McLaren driver, Daniel Ricciardo replacing g rookie Nyck de Vries at the Red Bull sister team, claiming that he is aiming for Sergio’s seat at Red Bull in 2025. To this, Sergio reacted in an interview, saying:

“I’m happy for Daniel, he’s very motivated to be back, so well done to him,” Perez told reporters at the Hungaroring. “It’s a great opportunity for him. From my side, it doesn’t change anything because I drive for Red Bull.”

He further went on to say that

“There’s not just Daniel out there. It’s Yuki, it’s more than half of the grid would like to drive for Red Bull.”

“So it doesn’t change anything,”

Daniel Ricciardo’s daring dream of Red Bull return

Ricciardo has recently taken the chance to make his comeback in Formula 1, with Red Bull’s Alpha Tauri replacing F1 rookie Nyck de Vires. He is all set to race alongside Yuki for the remainder of the races, starting in Hungary this weekend.

Even though he is recruited by Tauri, he aspires to be a Red Bull driver alongside Max. Daniel Ricciardo thinks that joining and racing for the sister team is the best chance at a shot at the Red Bull seat.

Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo was recently interviewed about this topic, and he had this to say:

“The dream is a Red Bull seat, but there is no: this is what you need to do to achieve that. Given what has happened over the past few years and taking time off, I knew it would be hard to get back in at the top.”

“Of course, that was my wish, but you need to be realistic, and if I want to get back into Red Bull it will be a process, and this is the best path for me at the moment. You know what they are like here. They are not telling me to take it easy, they want me to show them what I have got, but there is no criteria.”
