“Notre Dame gave him CTE”: NFL community ridicules Caleb Williams’ bizarre NFL team 2024 Draft demand

The USC Trojans’ star Caleb Williams has already taken the college football world by storm. The quarterback has been the center of attraction by showcasing magnificent performances on the field. After winning the Heisman trophy in 2022, he is the frontrunner to earn the title this year as well.

Williams is one of the group of at least five more QBs who are expected to be a top draft pick and is also the undisputed top prospect of the NFL draft class of USC in 2024. Hence, multiple NFL franchises might be eyeing to enroll him in their roster. However, with the benefit of being in the limelight, the young star demanded something for his draft that raised the eyebrows of the whole NFL community.

What is Caleb Williams’ bizarre NFL team 2024 draft demand?

Being in his second year at USC and third at the NCAA college football level, Williams is set to hit the draft market in 2024. Ahead of entering into the market, the QB has reportedly decided to seek partial ownership of the franchise that would draft him in the next year.

The former Green Bay Packers veteran Aaron Rodgers, who is now out of the field due to injury, demanded the same thing ahead of getting traded to the New York Jets but failed. It should not be without saying that the Jets didn’t turn down the offer- the NFL did it.

Meanwhile, whether the USC star will hit the draft market in 2024 is still uncertain as he told GQ on September 6 that the NFL is intensely competitive, and players barely have the chance to go for their favorite team, unlike college football.

“I’ve always been able to choose the team that I’ve played on. But now, going into this next part of my career, it’s weird ’cause it’s so uncertain. You don’t know anything. You can’t control anything but you and how you act. That’s honestly the weirdest part for me, is the uncertainty,” he said via Irish Mirror.

The signal-caller did a stellar job in quarterbacking by throwing 2,021 yards on the season while recording 23 touchdown passes against four interceptions in six games, giving his team a record of 6-1.

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah earlier compared Williams’ “ability to feel pressure and navigate around pressure with creativity” to that of the Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes. He is even projected to be in the group of Andrew Luck and Trevor Lawrence in terms of buzz ahead of the draft.

Nevertheless, the unusual demand of seeking ownership in a team even before entering the league made fans throw subtle jabs at him. USC’s lone defeat this season was against Notre Dame, and fans think the young star needed another CTE from the team to come out of this dream.

The NFL community was savage enough to diss him on social media, and some fans even compared his wish to landing on the moon.

A netizen wrote, “The chances of Caleb Williams being part of the ownership is the most ridiculous story I ever heard/read. It’s comical–and if this is true, he is getting horrendous advice. He has a better chance of landing on the moon than making this happen. WTF.”

The NIL deals at the college level can appear in the way they can offset the loss of the NFL’s rookie contract. Williams’ father Carr earlier said in an interview with GQ’s Sam Schube that his son might go back to school if the NIL deals seem more profitable. However, some fans wrote the QB would end up signing a standard rookie contract in the next year, instead of banking on NIL deals.

A person wrote, “It seems like there will be many reports/rumors about Caleb Williams and his requests over the next few months. That’s fine. But come next summer, he’ll sign a standard rookie contract for 4 years with a 5th-year option. Not staying in school for NIL, not team equity. Please.”
