Novak Djokovic extends exclusive invitation to Hamad Medjedovic for joint session before 2024 Australian Open and ATP Cup

Hamad Medjedovic reached career high 110 in the world ranking in 2023 after making it to the semifinals of the Astana Open in which he defeated former US Open champion Dominic Thiem and then the Gstaad Open, a huge leapfrog from the 674 position he was in 2021.

Novak Djokovic has acted as an inspiration to the Serbian prodigy since he was 10 when they first met in Belgrade, their home city. Since then, Djokovic has also played a big role in smoothing the path for the younger Serbian to become a professional, especially with regards to financial support and motivation.

Novak Djokovic invites Hamad Medjedovic for joint sessions

Latest tennis sensation Hamad Medjedovic defeated Frenchman Arthur Fils to clinch the Next Gen ATP Title in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 113th-ranked player defeated Frenchman Arthur Fils, who is No. 36 in the world ranking, in a four-set incredible final.

Hamad Medjedovic has been under the tutelage of Novak Djokovic since 2021 and the Serbian legend has been supporting the youngster both as a mentor and financially. After what would be remembered as one of the heroics display in the Next Gen Finals, Medjedovic has been invited by the 24-time Grand Slam winner for joint training sessions ahead of the 2024 United Cup and the Australian Open.

Viktor Troicki, Medjedovic’s coach made this known to Sportklub, “We received an invitation from Novak and his team to be together for the preparations. We are in Dubai until the end of December, and then from there we will go together to the United Cup in Perth.”

The United Cup which begins in early January is an international mixed-gender hard-court tournament where matches are played between each country teams. 2024 United Cup is the second edition of the only mixed-gender tournament where both ATP and WTA award points to their players and the maximum points that a player can score is 500.

“Of course, Novak will play singles, Hamad will be there as the second player, and I’m sure that all that time spent with Novak will mean a lot to him. The first tournament he will play in is the Australian Open,” Viktor added. 

How Novak Djokovic helped Hamad Medjedovic achieve tennis success?

This year, Hamad Medjedovic entered his first Grand Slam main draw at the French Open, and followed it up by qualifying for Wimbledon in July. The Serbian sensation also reached two ATP 500 Tour semifinals and won the Rafael Nadal Challenger title, leaving him on a career high 110 position.

Hamad Medjedovic has now revealed that Djokovic has been helping fund his success, “Novak Djokovic has been helping me out financially. Giving me whatever I need for my career. He covered it all. He just helped me out when I needed it and [is] still helping me out in all types of ways. I’m glad he’s there for me.”

“Would you believe who was the first to congratulate me on my title – Novak Djokovic. When I picked up my phone, I saw his voice message lasting more than one minute. He is a legend because he is always available for advice.”

Medjedovic’s father, Eldin, has also previously praised the 24-time Grand Slam champion, “We did not spend a dime, and believe me, that is not a small amount in the world of tennis, on the contrary. These kinds of things are rare in today’s world, but thank God there are still people who don’t care only about money, but about the human side of things.”

Fans and tennis lovers are hoping that Medjedovic continues to perform well and win more titles and perhaps replace the Serbian big legend Novak Djokovic when he retires.
