One Detroit Pistons win pumped millions of dollars into $150 million rapper Rick Ross’ Wingstop business

The Detroit Pistons are having a season to forget, setting abysmal records for their losing streaks and terrible performances. However, the team has managed to help other firms become successful through their own downfall.

Wings and fast food chain Wingstop partnered up with the Pistons before the season to award every fan five wings for each Detroit win. The business move turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the franchise, which recorded record profits this season.

How Pistons made Wingstop millions of dollars

While neither party expected the venture to be such a big hit, the Detroit Pistons helped Wingstop gain massive traction through their tragic performances this year.

Earlier this season, the Detroit Pistons and fast food chain Wingstop partnered together in a strategic venture that saw Pistons fans get five free wings for every Pistons win. Initially, it seemed as if the plan was not well thought through, given the horrible showing of the team in the league.

With fans and the social media community bashing the team, the team only went on to lose further and fans began to notice the possibility of receiving Wingstop’s free wings, savoring the possibility of a Detroit Pistons win.

Accumulating losses after losses, the team went onto break the unwanted record of consecutive losses, cementing their place on the wrong side of history. However, redemption awaited the Detroit Pistons and Wingstop. When the win the team was so desperately chasing came, fans erupted in joy and happiness realizing that their hunger could be solved by the free delights.

This created an unfathomable financial boom for Wingstop. Following the Detroit Pistons’ first win in two months, the Wingstop chain earned a grand total of 19,000,000 in net income that quarter, which equated to a massive 46% rise from their previous quarter.

The news of free wings also reached Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who added to Wingstop’s profits by scanning a QR code, which let users avail of the reward. The Greek Freak did it mid-game, which further grabbed the attention of the media, resulting in an 805 increase compared to half a year ago.

Papa John’s has somewhat similar promo offer to Wingstop’s Pistons offer

While Wingstop’s offer is relatively new, Papa Johns was ahead of the curve in identifying success through sports.

The pizza franchise successfully managed to sign a deal with the Miami Heat, which allowed fans to directly benefit from the success of the team. An offer that has been going on for a long time, allows fans to purchase pizzas at a 50% discount for every Miami Heat win. The promotion, which is named, “Heat win, You win.” allows fans to use the ‘HEATWIN’ code to avail themselves of the benefit.

The success of such ventures between fast food chains and sports teams is mind blowing, encouraging other teams and food franchises to entertain such strategies.
