Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia’s rivalry might not end as easily as many in the combat sports community were expecting. Instead, Oscar De La Hoya is showing interest in this potential matchup, where both fighters will try their luck in an MMA cage.
This time, Oscar De La Hoya is getting serious about making the bout official between the rivals Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia. “The Golden Boy” promotion even wants UFC’s boss in the co-main event of that fight night. Let’s check out what Oscar De La Hoya has to say.
Oscar De La Hoya aims to fight Dana White
Recently on MMA hour, the famous combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani interviewed Oscar De La Hoya about the potential matchup between Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia. De La Hoya is impressed with Sean’s style and skills, commenting that the promotion of this bout may become one of the biggest. But there is one more thing Oscar wants to mention for the much-anticipated fight night.
Oscar De La Hoya told Ariel Helwani, “Does he have purple hair now, or what color is it now? I like him. He’s a good striker… It would be a hell of a promotion. I would actually entertain that because Ryan can fight in the main event with this kid, and maybe I can do Dana in the co-main… We’re cool, but it’s all good. I mean, I don’t know if we’re cool. I mean, I haven’t talked to the guy… I’m good, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t go at it.”
Dana White hasn’t made any comments related to this potential crossover fight yet. However, after the April 13th UFC 300 event, there are many pending UFC main events that don’t have any main card names yet.
Sean O’Malley’s beef with Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney was explored
The rivalry started when the UFC bantamweight champion called out Garcia and Gervonta Davis for the boxing matchup last year. Since then, speculation about a grudge battle has been circulating in the combat sports community.
Recently, after facing the failure to book a fight against Rolly Romero, Ryan Garcia has been showing interest in Devin Haney. In the meantime, Sean O’Malley has started showing interest in fighting Haney in the boxing ring.
According to SI, recently ‘KingRy’ announced they have finally come to the official date for the potential matchup taking place on April 20th between him and Devin Haney. Ryan Garcia also has an interest in dealing with Sean O’Malley.
In one of the MMA hour interviews, Garcia even said, “”Bring that motherf***er on. I’ll beat his ass in MMA, guaranteed. I’m a natural; you don’t understand. I’m a natural wrestler. I just beat my security; that’s a wrestler. I beat him. I’m strong, and I got crazy conditioning.”
‘Sugar’ Sean is going to fight on March 10th, defending his UFC bantamweight title against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in a rematch. The first time Chito was able to defeat O’Malley via knockout at UFC 252.
