Gabriel Jesus and Arsenal are preparing for their new campaign that begins on August 6th when they face Manchester City in the FA Community Shield. The Gunners finished in second place last season, going through a very exhausting season after pushing for the Premier League title all season. Although City pipped them to the title, it was still considered a good campaign for the North London club.
Arteta will hope to have a complete squad ahead of the new campaign after investing in new players, including Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber from West Ham, Chelsea, and Ajax, respectively.
Mikel Arteta shares information on Gabriel Jesus
Arsenal concluded their pre-season with a 1-1 draw over Monaco yesterday, with the Gunners winning 5-4 on penalties. The game was Arsenal’s first at the Emirates Stadium this season, with fans cheering the team on. One notable absence was Gabriel Jesus, who was not named in the squad to face Monaco. It was feared that an injury might have kept the Brazilian out of action, and Arteta has come out to provide an update on the situation.
“He had a little procedure this morning, he’s injured, unfortunately,” the Gunners boss said in an interview shared by Fabrizio Romano. “He’s had some discomfort in his knees that caused him some issues, so they had to go in. He’s going to be out for a few weeks,” Arteta confirmed.

This is sad news for the club, which only has Eddie Nketiah as the only available striker ahead of the new season. It looks like deja vu for Mikel Arteta once again, after losing out to City in the race for the Premier League title last season due to injuries to several first-team players, including Gabriel Jesus.
With the other Premier League teams strengthening their squads ahead of the new season, Arsenal may be forced to go for a backup striker to compete early in the Premier League. Manchester United are closing in on Rasmus Hojlund after spending $56 million on Andre Onana as a replacement for David de Gea. This means Arsenal cannot afford to start the new season with a squad not strong enough to compete with other Premier League teams.
Gabriel Jesus to undergo knee surgery?
Arsenal will have to cope without Gabriel Jesus for the next few weeks after the Brazilian sustained a knee injury ahead of the club’s pre-season game at the Emirates Stadium against Monaco. ESPN has now confirmed that the former Manchester City player has undergone surgery on his knee, which will keep him out of the squad for a few weeks.
This is an unfortunate incident for the Brazilian, who was in his best form when Arsenal faced Barcelona a week ago.
Do you think that Arsenal will sign a new backup striker ahead of the new season?
