The offseason is marked by the Green Bay Packers’ 18-season veteran Aaron Rodgers’ departure from the team which also has garnered attention for them due to their arrangement of a fresh squad for the upcoming season. Ahead of the season, the team is also in a search to bolster their running back room.
Only three seasoned running backs are available for the Packers, and in order to position themselves as the strongest challenger, they definitely need an amazing name here. The Indianapolis Colts veteran player Jonathon Taylor is the rumored choice as the team’s new choice, but the general manager of the team is insistent that no details will be revealed at this time.
Brian Gutekunst talks Packers’ potential trade interest in the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor
Taylor wrapped up a season in which he was sidelined due to an ankle injury and would require a new deal that would reset his market value. The Colts also gave him permission last week to look for a trade partner. The Miami Dolphins reportedly expressed the first serious interest in the athlete, but they later changed their mind and announced their 53-man roster while keeping their five current running backs.
The Packers were allegedly in negotiations with the Colts for their top running back following the Dolphins’ cunning move, according to ESPN. Whatever the situation, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst gave a cryptic response to the deal during a recent press conference. Instead of openly responding to the deal, Gutekunst stated that they are actively seeking out opportunities to add good players to the squad.
“First of all, I can’t talk about players on other teams. We try to be in every conversation. Anytime we have good players available to us, we’d like to make the Green Bay Packers better, and we’ll look at those opportunities. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
The Veteran running back must sit out the first four games of the regular season since he is on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. It’s likely the cause of the Packers’ team’s inability to reach a decision despite their desire for the Colts’ player.
Which team will the Packers face in their season opener?
The Green Bay Packers had an 8-9 record overall, going 5-4 at home and 3-5 away from home. For the first time since Rodgers’ 2005 draft selection, the team appears entirely confident in its ability to start fresh this season without their seasoned quarterback.
The squad will begin the season against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field with a revamped quarterback room led by Jordan Love. They are kicking off the season on the road for the fifth consecutive year, the ninth time in the previous 11 campaigns, and the fourth time in the previous five campaigns against a rival from the same division.
