After using the No. 1 overall pick to select Bryce Young, the Carolina Panthers were projected to have a blockbuster season this year. But they probably couldn’t even dream that they would be the worst team of the NFL 2023 season by week 6. As of now, Carolina is the only franchise to go winless this season.
While the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles lost their undefeated titles, the Panthers are still looking to get rid of their winless title. After going through a poor season, the team is thinking of trading several players, and the Green Bay Packers have reportedly showcased interest in signing some of the players among them.
Packers consider significant trades with Panthers to bolster defense
By trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets this year, the Packers have proved their interest in making some big trade moves. Sports Illustrated NFL reporter Albert Breer earlier reported that the Panthers are going to bid adieu to some of their key players in exchange for future draft capital ahead of the Oct. 31 trade deadline, via Panthers Wire.
According to Wisconsin Sports Heroics, the Packers might be interested in Panthers linebacker Brian Burns. Carolina turned down a 2023 third-rounder and first-rounders in 2024 and 2025 to acquire him last year. The two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher has four sacks across five games this season.
The source also mentioned Carolina’s safety, Jeremy Chinn, as Green Bay’s target, who is in his contract year currently. The young star didn’t get to see the field more often recently due to the comprehensive approach taken by the team, as mentioned by their defensive coordinator, Ejiro Evero. Besides Brian and Chinn, Panthers receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. and corner Donte Jackson are also reportedly available for trade, but the Packers were not linked to them.
Packers’ rollercoaster start of the season
The Packers headed into the regular season without their veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and hence, it was projected to be a rollercoaster season for them from the very beginning. But when they secured a 38-20 victory over the Chicago Bears in week 1, fans thought Jordan could be ‘the guy’ moving forward, and the newly Green Bay team would be a contender for the playoff run.
Although the young signal-caller showcased his caliber to shoulder big responsibilities, the Packers fell short in the next week by embracing only a one-point loss against the Atlanta Falcons before winning by one point against the New Orleans Saints in week 3. However, week 4 and week 5 have been full of disappointments for the franchise as they lost both of the matches, and that too by big points.
Green Bay is now waiting at the second spot of the NFC North with a 2-3 mark, trailing behind Detroit Lions(5-1). With struggling defense as well as young members on offense, Love’s team would have to face heavy challenges in their upcoming games against the Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, and Los Angeles Rams.
Will they be able to bounce back in week 6? Tell us in the comments.
