Even though not signed with the UFC, Patchy Mix is one of the best fighters at bantamweight. With a 19-1 record with 16 finishes, many consider him the best bantamweight in the world, even ahead of Sean O’Malley, the UFC bantamweight champion.
Patchy Mix won the undisputed Bellator bantamweight title with a first-round finish over Sergio Pettis at Bellator 303 after he became the interim champion with a knockout of Raufeon Stots. Mix would be headlining Bellator Champions Series 2 in Paris, against Magomed Magomedov. Speaking to Inside Fighting’s Mike Owens, Mix revealed what he expects from Magomedov, whom he submitted in the second round at Bellator 289.
“He’s (Magomed Magomedov) strong everywhere, um, very good game, um, very knowledgeable. Uh, you know, he’s very dangerous, you know, he has a win over Peter Yan (ex-UFC bantamweight champion). Um, this guy’s very good,” Mix said of Magomedov.
“There’s no quitting this guy. He’s going to come for five rounds. I’m expecting, you know, blood, sweat, and tears. You know, gritty, violent fight from both ends, and I’m going to be there. You know, I’m not expecting this to be one-sided. I’m expecting to go into a war,” Mix added.
The fight against Magomedov would potentially be the first defense for Mix as he stated nobody is a champion unless they defend it. After his first professional MMA defeat to Juan Archuleta, Mix has been on a roll with his last three fights coming via finish, keen on keeping the finishing streak intact against Magomedov.
Tatiana Suarez, Mix’s girlfriend, is the number-one ranked strawweight in the UFC. Suarez recently signed with Dominance MMA and expressed interest in fighting Zhang Weili. With his exceptional skillset, Mix would be a great addition if he ever chose to sign with the UFC.
Patchy Mix on potential UFC move
There is a long gap between the number one MMA promotion in the world and the rest of the promotions. The UFC is leaps and bounds ahead of its rivals, but the recent merger between PFL and Bellator has shaken things up. Moreover, One FC has also garnered significant momentum in recent years.
Nevertheless, the UFC has attracted top talents more than the other promotions. Kayla Harrison, who made her career with the PFL, recently signed with the UFC and debuted successfully, at UFC 300. Patchy Mix made clear whether he has plans to go to the UFC.
“I’m mean, obviously I’m signed up PFL, Bellator, you know. I’m their champion. Um, I’m contracted with them, so you know, I just take mine as a fight at a time,” said Mix.
Patchy Mix trains at Extreme Couture where there is a plethora of UFC talents, Merab Dvalishvili being one of them. The Bellator champion expects Dvalishvili to dethrone O’Malley and predicts a future where both will have long reigns in their respective promotions per MMA News.
