Patrick Mahomes apparently has taken a vow to win the Super Bowl and its MVP as if it’s a ritual for him. The Kansas City Chiefs player has entered his seventh season with two Lombardi trophies, and two MVPs, breaking and setting multiple records.
The adorned quarterback again moonlighted as a hero in their third match of the season with a new record. However, the match also raised great concern among Chiefs fans’ indicating a projected injury of Mahomes.
Patrick Mahomes’ injury situation
In their Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, the Chiefs stepped onto the Arrowhead Stadium with one loss and one victory. Quite naturally Patrick Mahomes’ team dominated both sides of the ball to secure a 41-10 victory.
However, following a behind-the-back tackle from Bears pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue on Pat during the first half of the game, the 28-year-old was spotted limping and hopping across the field. The dual-threat quarterback’s leg was struck following the tackle and it instantly increased the chance that something in his lower extremities, like his knee, ankle, or foot, had been hurt.
According to reports, the damage was not too severe because Mahomes was able to continue playing despite the injury. However, head coach Andy Reid was quite worried about his starter, so he benched Mahomes in the second half of the game. Reid wanted to take some of the weight off Patrick because the Chiefs had a 34-0 lead at halftime and looked like they were going to win the game even before Mahomes got down.
The Chiefs’ star player reaffirmed his injury status in a post-game interview. The two-time MVP admitted that he was frightened of being attacked and suffering an ankle injury, but he afterward felt at ease and was able to move around painlessly.
“I would have been fine to play the rest of the game. If anything, it kind of scared me more — just being that ankle, and so it scared me a little bit more. We taped it up and then I was able to go.”
The ankle issue caused a nightmare for the Chiefs star during their AFC Divisional win against the Jacksonville Jaguars last season as he sustained a sprained right ankle in the match.
Legend of Mahomes grows further
The Chiefs understand how much they owe Patrick Mahomes, so they recently gilded his legacy with a packed restructured contract. Following the contract, the young star appears to be hurrying to live up to their enormous expectations for him.
Every time Mahomes is on the field, his thoughts are not only focused on snagging a victory for the Chiefs but also on setting or shattering a record. The legendary Chiefs quarterback fell 228 throwing yards short of Matthew Stafford’s career-high of 25,000 yards.
Stafford had previously accomplished this feat in 90 games. Patrick Mahomes, meanwhile, not only surpassed his record but also completely destroyed it by reaching the milestone in just 82 games. Patrick Mahomes also made history by becoming the player to reach 200 career touchdown passes the quickest, thanks to his incredible playmaking display against the Bears.
After coming from a Super Bowl-winning season, the Chiefs with their vet player are apparently poised to contend for another Super Bowl victory. Do you think the third Super Bowl for Pat is loading? Let us know in the comment box.
