Paul Heyman explains why WWE fans love Cody Rhodes over Roman Reigns

WrestleMania is only a week away, and WWE fans have made it blatantly clear that they love ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes more than ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns. Paul Heyman recently disclosed the true reason behind this difference between both WWE superstars and why this is just the start.

He revealed in an interview that fans get to interact more with the master of ‘Cross Rhodes’, and this makes them support him more than the current undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

WWE fans’ affection for Cody Rhodes over Roman Reigns explained

The WWE Hall of Fame inductee, Paul Heyman recently explained why the WWE universe rejected ‘The Big Dog’ Roman Reigns and instead accepted Cody Rhodes as their favorite superstar. The WWE legend revealed the truth during an interview with Forbes.

“Roman’s rise as the protagonist in WWE folklore was the corporate portrayal of how the corporation viewed Roman Reigns and Joe Anoa’i behind the scenes as Roman Reigns. And with Cody, what you see is what you get. This is Cody. Cody loves to stay in the arena after the show, shaking every hand, posing with every fan, [and] signing every autograph. That’s just not Roman Reigns”, said Heyman.

Paul Heyman further explained that Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes have different approaches to their character portrayal. The Wiseman praised his Tribal Chief, saying that the ‘Head of the Table’ is here to do a job better than anyone and that he pursues perfection in his craft. “He’s a game-day player. He’s there to do his job, do it better than everybody else or anybody else, and then get out and go home. His job is to feed his family, and he feeds his family by being the best at what he does on the face of the planet now, if not ever, he’s not the baby-kissing autograph signer. It’s just not him,” added Heyman.

Paul Heyman reveals Roman Reigns’ retirement thoughts

Roman Reigns was absent from the in-ring action during the COVID-19 pandemic, Paul Heyman shared in an interview with Raj Prashad of Uproxx, that Roman wanted to retire from active competition back in 2020. The WWE star took a break from February 2020 to August 2020.

In the interview, the real GOAT, Paul Heyman said, “He considered himself retired. He wasn’t coming back. I was executive director of Monday Night Raw, and Roman was assigned to SmackDown. But every week I heard all the SmackDown writers and producers and personnel saying, ‘God, I just wish Roman would come back.’”

The 58-year-old special counsel said that what WWE achieved with Roman is nothing short of a miracle, as the said wrestler never wanted to return. After he decided to come back, the Stamford-based promotion made him the greatest heel of recent times, and fans loved the change. Romans’s legacy is forged through his hard work and dedication. As for his rise as the new face of WWE, this may change in WrestleMania 40 after his match with Cody Rhodes.
