The All State Arena in Chicago erupted in excitement last week, when CM Punk made his return to WWE in the Survivor Series. This is considered one of the greatest return in WWE of all time in nearly a decade.

Paul Heyman disclosed how he became associated with CM Punk

The master mind behind Heyman’s alliance with Punk is none other than the boss Vince McMahon. In the Inside The Ropes Live show in Manchester back in July 2016, Heyman opened up about how he became CM Punk’s Advocate from receiving a call from Vince McMahon.

He revealed the telephone conversation with McMahon. “So I get a phone call and it’s from Vince ‘Hey pal, wanna talk to you about — What are you doing next Monday?’ ‘Watching the show from Chicago on television.’ And he says, ‘Well, that’s interesting, I’d like you to have an up-close seat. I have this idea about you working with somebody else. Why, who you gonna put me with?’ [Vince says] ‘CM Punk!’ ‘Aw, f**k, I’ll see you Monday!”

Heyman’s sharp wit and ability to stir up controversy perfectly complemented Punk’s rebellious persona and in-ring prowess. Together, they became the ultimate heel act, drawing heat from fans wherever they went and engaging in memorable feuds with top stars like John Cena, Daniel Bryan, and The Undertaker.

Heyman’s first encounter with CM Punk

The alliance between Paul Heyman and CM Punk was one of the most memorable and successful partnerships in professional wrestling history. It began on September 3, 2012, when Heyman was seen driving the car that Punk had entered after attacking John Cena.

This marked the start of a new chapter in both men’s careers as they embarked on a dominant run, with Punk capturing the WWE Championship on three occasions. Heyman, a master manipulator and promo aficionado, recognized Punk’s immense talent and saw in him the potential to become the new “franchise player” of WWE.

Their alliance reached its peak in 2013 when Punk held the WWE Championship for 434 days, the longest reign in the company’s modern history. Heyman’s presence amplified Punk’s status as the “Best in the World,” further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest performers of all time.

Unfortunately, their partnership came to an end in 2014 when Punk abruptly left WWE. Heyman continued to manage other top stars but never quite recreated the magic he had with Punk. The Heyman-Punk alliance remains one of the most iconic pairings in wrestling history, a testament to their unmatched chemistry and ability to entertain the masses.
