Paul Pierce used to work as a studio analyst when he joined ESPN after retiring in 2017. After a few years working with ESPN, he faced backlash for an Instagram video in which he was surrounded by strippers, consuming alcohol, and smoking a blunt, leading to the termination of his employment in 2021.
Since losing his job with ESPN, the analyst has appeared on various TV shows discussing basketball. However, it appears he’s been entangled in controversial financial issues, resulting in multiple lawsuits. Recently, an alleged poker debt lawsuit against Paul Pierce reportedly received the green light.
Paul Pierce allegedly settled poker debt lawsuit with Stephen Carmona
NBA legend Paul Pierce has reportedly settled the lawsuit filed against him by Stephen Carmona over an alleged poker debt. Court documents reveal that Pierce and Carmona have reached an agreement, with Carmona agreeing to drop all claims against Pierce and both parties handling their legal fees.
In the 2022 lawsuit, Carmona asserted that he lent Pierce $150,000 during a private poker game in Los Angeles. He claimed Pierce lost $140,000 in the game and only repaid $10,000. Carmona also alleged lending an additional $40,000 to Pierce in a subsequent game, with no repayment from the second loan.
Despite demands, Carmona stated that Pierce refused to settle the total owed amount of $180,000. In response, Pierce denied all wrongdoing, contending that the loan agreements were unenforceable, and Carmona assumed the risk of potential losses in the poker games.
These legal matters compound Pierce’s recent financial challenges, including a $1.4 million settlement with the SEC for unlawfully promoting crypto securities. The settlement with Carmona provides Pierce with resolution in one aspect of his financial difficulties as he navigates other legal issues.
Unpaid car payments plagued Pierce
The controversial former NBA legend and analyst’s reported lifestyle isn’t always pleasant or enjoyable to hear or read about. While he attempts to resolve some of the controversies outside the court, another lawsuit looms on the horizon.
Former NBA legend Paul Pierce is encountering additional legal issues as JPMorgan Chase Bank initiates a lawsuit, alleging he ceased making payments on his 2019 Range Rover in December 2021. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, asserts that Pierce had agreed to pay $3,445.28 per month until the vehicle was fully paid, and the unpaid principal balance stands at $91,459.
JPMorgan Chase Bank officially served Pierce with the lawsuit on November 4, seeking possession of the Range Rover. However, Pierce has resisted surrendering the vehicle. The lawsuit is seeking a court order compelling Pierce to hand over the car promptly.
These legal challenges come on the heels of Pierce’s departure from ESPN in 2021 following controversial Instagram videos. The current lawsuit underscores a $91,459 claim against Pierce for allegedly failing to make payments of $3,445.28 per month for his high-end Range Rover.
