Peter Schmeichel believes Erik ten Hag likely to change Manchester United’s fortune despite UCL exit: “He is well equipped”

Manchester United fans are just wishing for the season, with one bad news after another. The Red Devils have had one of their worst seasons to date, despite an initial good one under manager Erik Ten Hag. They are just 6th in the Premier League due to a lot of bad performances this season.

And now they are out of European soccer as well, having finished last in their Champions League group stage. And despite the vast calls for his sacking, one individual thinks he can still succeed.

Peter Schmeichel backs Erik ten Hag to succeed with Manchester United

The UCL exit was very disappointing for the fans, and they won’t get to witness European soccer anymore this season. Their team is 6th in the league and has lost 12 games this season. They aren’t an attractive side to watch, with few goals up front. The controversies off the pitch also don’t help a lot, and manager Erik Ten Hag has a lot of pressure on him.

Many fans and former professionals as well have called for his sacking, but one former United legend still believes in him. That is former Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, who is a legend for the club.

In an interview with CBS, he defended the Dutchman, saying, “I think Ten Hag can turn this around; he is well equipped. There is a lot of people saying we need to change the manager again and that’s an opinion but, to who? Who is the next guy going to be? It goes a lot deeper. It is structural at the football club.”

Peter’s words hold merit, as changing managers have shown to not do anything significant at Manchester United. Furthermore, Ten Hag has seen a lot of his star players injured, and we have seen what he can do with his squad last season. So, it may be a good idea to keep trusting the Dutch manager, even though their season is going bad.

Bayern Munich finish top of UCL group as Manchester United finish last

It was Kingsley Coman who scored as Bayern Munich grabbed a 1-0 win at Old Trafford for a disappointing UCL exit for the Red Devils. What was more bittersweet was the fact that it was former Tottenham superstar Harry Kane that had assisted it. The Englishman has 22 goals and 8 assists for Bayern this season, and he was a top transfer target for Erik Ten Hag, though the deal never happened.

While they didn’t need the win that much, Bayern are now first in their group with 16 points, winning five of their games. Meanwhile, United are last of the group with just 4 points and 1 win. This means that they won’t even be playing in the Europa League, the spot which Galatasaray have gotten. It was their second ever last place finish in the history of the UCL, and the worst defensive record by an English team, having conceded 15 goals, both part of one of their worst UCL season.

Manchester United will now focus on the Premier League, where they have to face another tough test against rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
