The reigning three-time World Champion had an extraordinary season last year, accumulating victories and achievements that even some experienced drivers on the grid could not attain. Despite being one of the youngest drivers at 26 years old, he has reached remarkable heights in his career, leading an entire team singlehandedly.
This year as well, the Dutch sensation has emphasised his clear and expansive vision until retirement, aiming to solidify his dominance on the grid.
What F1 records may Max Verstappen set in 2024?
Max Verstappen has claimed victory in 19 out of 22 races, marking the 2023 season as the most successful campaign of the team, along with exceeding numerous previous records held by the legends of the Formula One industry. However, even after achieving all of these successful accomplishments, the Dutch still have additional records to surpass. These are, namely:
Four consecutive F1 drivers’ championships: Only a handful of drivers in the past have either surpassed this record or achieved it up to this point. However, the fourth title is a prestigious record that can even define the turning point of a driver’s entire career lifestyle.
The previous legends who have already exceeded this successful triumph are:
- Juan Manuel Fangio (1954–1957)
- Michael Schumacher (2000–2004, five consecutive)
- Sebastian Vettel (2010-2013)
- Lewis Hamilton (2017-2020)
Max Verstappen, too, will join this list of celebrities if he manages to mirror last year’s performance in this season too.
Most consecutive races to score points– The record for the most consecutive finish places is currently held by Lewis Hamilton. The British driver secured 48 consecutive grands prix from the 2018 British Grand Prix until the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix.
On the other side, Max Verstappen’s winning streak began after he won the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which was the fourth event of the year. If the Dutch driver manages to secure points in the initial eight races of this campaign, he will most likely set the record at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Most consecutive race finishes: Currently, Lewis Hamilton holds a winning streak of 48 consecutive race finishes, a record that no other driver in the industry could surpass. However, if Max Verstappen, with his current streak of 41 consecutive points finishes, secures victory for the initial eight races of the 2024 season, he will have a golden opportunity to break this record held by the respectable Britishman too.
Moving up the list of most pole positions and podiums: While Verstappen has broken some of the major records engraved in the Formula Oe sector, there are still some others for him to pursue, such as the championship record of seven titles, which are currently owned by Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
In his entire F1 career, the Red Bull driver has secured the pole position 32 times, which means securing two more poles would place him in the fifth position on the all-time list, surpassing Jim Clark, Alain Prost, and Nigel Mansell. Additionally, if he is successfully able to mirror one of his championship-winning seasons, he could easily go up to the fourth position on the list.
Additionally, the 26-year-old would require 98 podium finishes this season to surpass Kimi Räikkönen, Alain Prost and Fernando Alonso.
Max Verstappen is off to an excellent 2024 F1 start
At the Bahrain pre-testing session, spectators had already gotten a hint of what Red Bull would have in store for the entire 2024 season. However, Alex Albon’s prediction of Verstappen taking the lead in the Bahrain Grand Prix turned into reality, with the World Champion securing the pole position in Friday’s qualifying session.
Even though Verstappen’s pole time was slower than Charles Leclerc’s top Q2 performance, such indifferences keep occurring when the pressure intensifies in the final phase of qualifying.
