The Las Vegas Raiders sacked their head coach Josh Mcdaniels and general manager, Dave Ziegler, despite being in fear of facing a financial setback. The move resulted in a good aftermath, as the team secured two back-to-back wins following it, prompting players to enjoy a crazy locker room dance session.
However, after those victories, the Raiders have once again got embroiled in a losing streak. Following their recent loss against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders are reportedly eyeing part ways with their veteran cornerback Marcus Peters after benching him for a while.
Raiders set to cut veteran CB Marcus Peters
The 2023 NFL season has seen Marcus Peters make a significant impact for the Raiders. Starting in all 11 games and showcasing consistency by playing every snap in seven outings, he seemed to be a stalwart in the team’s defensive setup. However, a startling turn of events during the match against the Kansas City Chiefs hinted at a dramatic shift in his role within the team.
The CB found himself relegated to the sidelines throughout the second half of the game against the Chiefs, hinting at a growing rift between him and the coaching staff.
Now, Vic Tafur of The Athletic has reported insider information indicating the franchise’s intention to cut ties with the veteran mid-season. The decision seems to stem from ongoing performance concerns, notably an incident during the game where his tackling technique raised eyebrows, which ultimately led the team to bench him midway through the second quarter.
“Pierce benched cornerback Marcus Peters midway through the second quarter after the latest olé on a tackle attempt by the veteran. The two had a brief exchange on the sideline at halftime before Pierce walked away and Peters watched the second half by himself wearing a beanie”, the source said via Yahoo Sports.
“Peters was almost cut earlier this season, according to team and league sources, and is not expected back when the team returns from its bye week”, Tafur added.
This potential departure marks an unexpected turn for the Oakland, California, native, who joined the Raiders earlier this year after a stint with the Baltimore Ravens. His return from a knee injury in the 2021 season was followed by a mixed performance across 13 games.
Raiders to have their first-ever post Week 10 bye week
The Raiders are poised to break their long-held pattern by securing their first-ever post-week-10 bye week in the upcoming 2023–24 NFL season. This unprecedented scheduling change marks a significant shift for the team in the post-merger era, diverging from their historical bye-week placements.
The Raiders are renowned for having their regular-season bye week no later than Week 10 in previous campaigns. However, scheduled for a Week 13 hiatus alongside fellow franchises Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, Buffalo Bills, and Minnesota Vikings, they will experience an extended rest period later in the season than ever before.
Following their Week 12 clash with the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium, the Las Vegas-based will bask in a crucial bye week. Meanwhile, this strategic break aligns with two consecutive games at the stadium. The final chapters of their regular-season narrative will see the franchise returning home for an electrifying face-off against the Denver Broncos.
