Raiders shut down talks of trading Davante Adams before deadline despite WR’s frustration

The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the second spot in the AFC West with a 3-3 record. With the pressure of playoff uncertainty looming, they prepare to face the Chicago Bears in Week 7 without their starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, who is sidelined due to a recent injury.

Brian Hoyer will step into the role of quarterback for the Raiders. Additionally, the team has been grappling with concerns surrounding wide receiver Davante Adams, who has expressed frustration with the team’s performance in recent times. Despite speculation that Las Vegas might trade Adams before the upcoming deadline due to this ongoing tension, the team appears set on avoiding any significant missteps.

Raiders firm in keeping Davante Adams

After getting traded by the Green Bay Packers to the Raiders in March 2022 in exchange for first- and second-round selections in that year’s draft, Adams has been constantly drawing attention from defense. However, his recent dispute with the team has been strong enough to let the NFL community think about his potential trade ahead of the Oct. 31 deadline.

Nevertheless, the Raiders are not ready to bid adieu to the three-time All-Pro so quickly, as according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the team had no intention to trade him before the deadline.

Davante signed a 5-year, $140,000,000 contract with Las Vegas that also included a $19,250,000 signing bonus and $65,670,000 guaranteed, along with a $28,000,000 average salary. He is in the 10th season of his NFL career and second with the Raiders.

Adams expresses frustration with his role despite the Raiders’ win

Adam’s recorded 39 receptions for 471 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season. Despite being targeted 20 times for 172 yards with two touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers, that number dwindled to just nine targets in the last two games.

A 30-year-old veteran in the receiving position, the star cannot ignore his diminishing role. Following Wednesday’s practice, he voiced his frustration about not having a larger role in the squad.

“I have extremely high standards for myself in this offense. So, to me, it’s not just about — I’m sure people thinking, ‘Oh they won the game. They won the Packers game. Why is there an issue?’ I mean, you see why it’s an issue. Y’all should know who I am, know what I’m about at this point,” he said via NESN.

The six-time Pro Bowl receiver has accumulated 808 receptions, 10,108 yards, and 90 touchdowns in 139 games. He recorded 18 touchdowns in 2020 and racked up 1,553 yards in 2021. However, in the Las Vegas offense, his dominance has failed to shine. What are your thoughts on Adams’ comment? Share your opinions in the comments section.
