Premier League giants Manchester United spent a hefty £72 million to bring Atalanta sensation Rasmus Hojlund on a long-term, five-year deal, with an option to extend for an additional year. This move from Serie A in August 2023 aimed to reinforce United’s offensive ranks with promising attackers’ talent.
Hojlund endured a difficult start to life in England, struggling for a long time to score his first league goal. It took the striker three months to net his first Premier League goal. Recently, his appearance in an interview has stirred serious threats with a Manchester United fan channel owner.
Rasmus Hojlund interview leads to death threats
Last month, the 20-year-old Red Devils star gave an exclusive interview to the popular Manchester United fan channel on YouTube, “The United Stand.” However, after the Rasmus Hojlund sit-down interview with the channel, the host and owner of the channel, Mark Goldbridge, and their staff members received death threats.
The interview triggered a backlash on social media against ‘The United Stand’ channel, including death threats to Goldbridge, warning him against attending any future matches at Old Trafford. Threatening messages on social media also mentioned other members of the staff and disclosed the exact location of the studio.
The Greater Manchester Police were informed about the incident and have provided the necessary security to ensure safety. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the police stated, “Officers have spoken with the victim, and relevant information has been passed over to the police. Enquiries are ongoing at this stage.”
Mark Goldbridge said, “I totally understand that football is a passionate and divisive sport and that people are free to decide and have an opinion on what content they consume. To be threatening people’s lives yet again evidences the vile pack mentality that exists on social media.”
Rasmus Hojlund reportedly reprimanded by teammates for the interview
Reportedly, the Manchester United teammates of Rasmus Hojlund were unhappy with his appearance on ‘The United Stand’ channel, given its history of being critical of the club’s players and performances, with presenter Mark Goldbridge being a prominent figure on the channel.
Hojlund is currently sidelined due to injury. The striker has been a fan of the club since childhood. He is said to have been following the most popular United fan channel and made a promise to join presenter Mark Goldbridge for an interview, despite the potential for discord with his clubmates.
