Real Madrid commenced the new year on a high by defeating their arch-rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup 2024 final, lifting the trophy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday. However, they faced an unexpected exit from the Copa Del Rey Round-16 after losing to Atletico Madrid last night.
Despite facing injuries to key players, the Spanish side has remained inactive in the ongoing January transfer market. Instead, they are relying on their recent arrivals and planning for significant additions in the upcoming summer, with players like Alphonso Davies and Erling Haaland on their radar.
Real Madrid reportedly agreed to a deal with Alphonso Davies
Real Madrid has no plans to sign or offload any players this month, rather they are focusing on making significant additions to the squad at the end of the season. Previously, it was reported that they had identified Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies as their top priority target.
Seemingly, the Canadian superstar is also in favor of a switch to Santiago Bernabéu, as he has already achieved all the titles possible and fancies Spain as the next destination for his club career. Reportedly, he has now agreed with Real Madrid on personal terms for a potential transfer.
The 28-year-old left-back meets all the criteria that the 14-time Champions League winners are demanding for their new full-back. However, Davis still has a year left on his contract with the Bavarians, and they are willing to extend his deal. Therefore, Real Madrid is subject to paying a transfer fee.
Also, this season, Carlo Ancelotti is missing two key figures in the defense, Eder Militao and David Alaba. The Italian boss aims to bolster the defense with new firepower. Additionally, they want to improve the left side of the defense, which Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia are currently manning.
Real Madrid bank on Jude Bellingham to land Erling Haaland
Jude Bellingham’s arrival at Real Madrid has brought a spark to La Liga. The midfielder quickly immersed himself in the team, playing a key role in the club’s ongoing campaign. Building on his on-field brilliance, the club now aims to leverage his off-field friendship with his former Dortmund teammate, Erling Haaland.
The Spanish giants have been pursuing Kylian Mbappe, though they are still waiting for the green light from his side to offer the deal. In the meantime, Los Blancos are keeping tabs on Manchester City ace striker to bring to the Bernabéu as their new number nine in the summer with the help of Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham and the Norwegian striker have previously played together in the Bundesliga, sharing a strong friendship bond. Hence, the club believes the midfielder can play an instrumental role in persuading the Premier League Golden Boot holder to join the club to play alongside him.
