It appears that Max Verstappen is on the path to winning the 2023 F1 Championship, as he has an eight-win streak this season and currently holds a commanding lead of 314 points, 125 points ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez in second place with 189 points. Red Bull is also on course to secure their sixth Constructor title.
With the data collected over the summer break, it has now been determined when the Red Bull driver ‘could’ officially secure his third championship title.

In the 2023 F1 calendar, there is an additional 10 Grand Prix left; three of which feature a sprint race format. If a driver competes in a sprint race, they can achieve up to 34 points, whereas a normal race weekend has a maximum of 26 points. Overall, 284 points can be earned throughout the 2023 season.
Verstappen is in a prime position to be declared the champion at the United States Grand Prix if he can keep his 125-point lead. He has a good chance of doing this, as his performance so far this season suggests he will extend his lead in the remaining races, in which 112 points are up for grabs.
According to Sporf, Max could even win the championship by just finishing second in every race. From here on in, even if Checo secures every win and fastest lap for the rest of 2023, he will get 489 points. By comparison, Verstappen would finish on 507 should he finish second at every GP and sprint race. In fact, with a 26-point lead heading into Abu Dhabi in this hypothetical situation, Max would just have to finish in the points at the last race to become the outright champion.
This just goes to show the utter dominance of the Dutchman this season.
Verstappen to enter exclusive list of F1 legends including Nelson Piquet
It now seems a matter of when, not if Verstappen will pick up his third title and will enter the exclusive list of Formula One legends that includes greats like Nelson Piquet. Piquet is a three-time Drivers’ Champion, and he is known for his aggressive driving style. He also happens to be the father of Verstappen’s girlfriend, Kelly Piquet.
In addition to Piquet, some of the other Formula 1 legends that Verstappen will join include Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Juan Manuel Fangio. These drivers are all considered to be among the greatest of all time, and they have all made a significant contribution to the sport.
Verstappen won back-to-back Drivers’ Championships in 2022, making him the youngest driver to have earned multiple titles.
