Helmut Marko is a man known for his words, which are mostly controversial. Similarly, he has again sparked another controversy among the press when he was criticizing his driver, Sergio Perez. Marko had mocked Sergio making a comment that was offensive towards his culture.
This invoked a lot of rebuke from people all over and even fellow driver Lewis Hamilton couldn’t help but comment on his statements, considering the fact that Lewis is one of the biggest activist against racism with his efforts directed towards such acts especially.
Helmut Marko drops clue about intentions behind controversial remarks on Perez
It seems as if Marko wanted to explain his situation and his intentions about those comments. His controversial past has led to a lot of heat coming his way and Marko can’t help but get trapped in these situations again and again.
Marko further apologized publicly about the racially insensitive words. He however remarked about what he meant,
“Many things were deliberately orchestrated,” he mentioned to oe24.
“However, I don’t want to say more on this topic.”
When Sergio Perez was confronted about the same, “I had a private conversation with him,” Perez said to the media.
“He did apologise. And that to me was the main thing. And yeah, basically, we move on. I have a personal relationship with him. And I think you can always have those feelings when you see that sort of stuff.”
“Knowing the person helps a lot, because I know he doesn’t mean it that way. And I took his apology, because I know Helmut from the personal relationship that we have that he doesn’t mean it that way.”
It is good that both of them came to a mutual consensus, Red Bull is a volatile racing environment but it has always been there for its drivers.

Earlier, Marko had issued insensitive comments about Sergio Perez’s national origins, he directly connected Perez’s race performance to his origins when he compared Perez to other Red Bull greats Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel. He commented saying that Sergio’s poor performance can be attributed to the fact that he is “South American”.
His statement was both derogatory and factually incorrect considering that Sergio Perez is from Mexico.
Marko issued a public apology on Servus TV and in person to Checo, however, the words had done their job of causing a huge uproar.
