Reece James injury update: how long will the Chelsea captain remain sidelined?

Chelsea’s season keeps going from bad to worse, with captain Reece James the most recent problem. Just when the Blues were starting to show some form of improvement, they went on to lose 2-0 to Everton once again. The squad seems dysfunctional and does not seem to be playing well at all.

And in the game against Everton, their captain, Reece James, arguably their best player, got injured. And it seems that the situation is more drastic than was thought before.

Reece James injury update

Reece James was forced off in just the 27th minute of the game, being substituted by the manager Mauricio Pochettino after the player himself requested it. He saw a doctor because there were concerns about the severity of the injury.

It was found that his hamstring was injured again. In the last 3 years, James has suffered 7 injuries in his hamstring of the right leg. This has caused concerns over the player’s long-term fitness for the club.

Chelsea released a medical statement, “Captain Reece James has undergone medical assessment following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Everton.”

“The defender was withdrawn during the first half at Goodison Park, and scan results have confirmed a hamstring injury. Reece will now begin his rehabilitation programme at Cobham.”

After the assessment was done, it was expected that he would need surgical help. Based on the recovery period that is being expected, it may take until February or March before James returns to the pitch.

James has so far only started six games this season, missing two months of action after a hamstring injury in August. He suffered two such injuries last season and even missed the World Cup in 2022. Being a talented right back who is their best player, his long-term absences are seriously impacting the team.

Reece James led Chelsea’s Christmas party

According to The Telegraph, Reece James recently took the whole team out on a Christmas party this Sunday night. It was reportedly pre-planned by James, who wanted to bring the team together for a Christmas night out. But after the defeat to Everton, he felt it was also necessary as a team-bonding session.

The team went to the Bagatelle restaurant in Mayfair at first before going to the Tape nightclub. Both the club and manager Mauricio Pochettino allowed the party to take place despite the defeat. Many fans did criticize it, comparing it to the Marcus Rashford incident that took place a few weeks ago.

Chelsea are in a dire situation, being just 12th in the Premier League. Pochettino recently asked for more reinforcements in order to improve results, as the team is not performing as expected.
