Ever since retiring from WWE, two-time Hall of Famer and sixteen-time WWE champion Ric Flair has been sharing several backstage stories from his early wrestling days. The Nature Boy has also revealed some of the personal experiences he had while working with several professional wrestlers in his 40-year-long wrestling career.
Ric Flair recently revealed a shocking incident about Andre the Giant, which was beyond his belief if he had not witnessed it with his own eyes.
Ric Flair recalls Andre the Giant’s downing 106 beers in six hours
On a recent episode of the “Rich Eisen Show” podcast, WWE Legend Ric Flair revealed a hilarious experience that he had by going out to drink with late WWE superstar Andre the Giant. The Nature Boy was himself quite addicted to alcohol during his prime career, but he was astonished by the amount of beer that Andre could consume.
“I was with him one night at the Downtown in Charlotte in ’74 or ’75 when he drank 106 beers. Here’s what happened. It was getting so ridiculous; he was having one after another, and he was with Frank Valois [Andre’s manager], myself, and a guy named Ivan Koloff. We were there drinking, and the bartender soon said, ‘I’m not believing this. Let me separate this,’ because Andre was drinking one beer and everybody else was drinking [another].” said Ric Flair.
The Hall of Famer also mentioned the brand of beer that Andre was consuming, and he also mentioned that Andre drank for six hours straight. Flair said, “I think he was drinking like regular Miller, not Miller Lite; [it] wasn’t around then, and we were drinking something else, so he just separated it. Frank Valois drank 56, and Andre drank 106. That’s from 10 o’clock until like 4 in the morning.”
Flair’s collaboration with legendary Andre the Giant
WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has faced many formidable opponents in his 40-year-old career, and Andre the Giant is one of those opponents. Although they have only fought in two singles matches, it is still very special for The Nature Boy.
While wrestling outside of WWE in other promotions, Flair, the encouraging father of Charlotte Flair, stumbled upon Andre the Giant, and he felt very interested in fighting with the gigantic wrestler. Surprisingly, Ric Flair got his chance to have a match with Andre in 1980. After that, Flair and Andre faced each other in various promotions. Sadly, the Legends didn’t get the opportunity to compete inside the WWE ring.
Last year, in an episode of the “Ric Flair” YouTube show with Mark Madden, The Nature Boy talked about his time working with Andre the Giant and shared his number of faceoffs against the Hall of Famer. He said, “I have wrestled Andre 500 tag team matches and 100 battle royals and had only two singles matches”.
