After an incredible career, Ric Flair is now enjoying retirement. Wrestling great Ric Flair won 16 world championships and was in some spectacular battles on his way to being a two-time inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Nevertheless, there is nothing that can equal the pain he experienced when he lost his son, Reid. His premature passing not only left the wrestling world in a state of profound sadness but also mentally affected his father.
What happened to Ric Flair’s son Reid?
A huge tragedy struck the wrestling community in 2013 when Ric Flair’s health issues took center stage in the media as he missed Monday Night Raw because of a blood clot. Tragically, the wrestling world faced another blow with the death of Reid Flair, Ric’s son, at the young age of 25.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Reid aspired to pursue a career in professional wrestling. His training under superstars like Harley Race and his debut in 2008 showed potential despite his young age.
Reid’s promise was evident when he attended events with his father, even though he never formally participated in WWE. However, it surprised many that behind the scenes, Reid struggled with personal issues, including problems with drug addiction.
Unfortunately, on March 29, 2013, Reid’s body was discovered in his bed at a Residence Inn in Charlotte, North Carolina. Drug overdose was determined to be the cause of his death by the autopsy, which indicated that heroin and prescription tranquilizers were present in his system at the time of his passing.
Charlotte Flair’s message for late brother
The iconic 16-time world champion Ric Flair has made an everlasting impression on professional wrestling. Charlotte Flair, his daughter and one of the most famous female wrestlers of all time, is widely considered one of his greatest legacies.
Charlotte suffered a serious injury in her battle against Asuka, therefore she will not be able to attend this year’s WrestleMania. Though she has already begun to heal from her ACL, MCL, and meniscus tears, she is no longer in active play.
Today is Reid Flair, Charlotte’s younger brother’s birthday who passed away at only 25 years old. Reid had an influence on the indie circuit and WCW despite his short wrestling career.
Charlotte recently celebrated Reid’s birthday on Instagram, where she shared touching memories and expressed her daily inspiration from him. She went so far as to include Redlight King’s “Dust Settles Down” lyrics in her homage.
