Richard Sherman DUI arrest: Ex-NFL icon worth $40 million needs just $5K for bail

Richard Sherman’s NFL journey began when he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks, captivating fans with his skills for 11 seasons. He showcased his talents with the Seahawks from 2011 to 2017, followed by a stint with the San Francisco 49ers from 2018 to 2020, and concluded his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.

Soon after ending his NFL career, he gained popularity as a sports analyst that is seemingly on the verge of ending due to his latest off-field issues that left him locked up in jail.

Richard Sherman DUI arrest bail set at $5K

After spending the weekend at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle, Richard Sherman faced a Monday morning hearing where his bail was set at $5,000, as per Reuters. This legal development followed his weekend arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The incident occurred when he was stopped around 2 a.m. on Saturday on Interstate 405 in a Seattle suburb for allegedly driving 79 mph in a 60 mph zone. State Patrol Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas noted in the report that Sherman’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and he smelled of intoxicants. Nevertheless, amid this situation, he chose not to undergo a breath test.

Despite the legal proceedings, his attorney, Jon Scott Fox, expressed anticipation of swift processing and release. The 35-year-old has been restricted from driving until the hearing, and the judge imposed further orders, including refraining from alcohol or prescription drugs. He has been ordered to comply with blood or breath tests before Wednesday as well.

Known for his roles as an analyst on Amazon Prime’s Thursday night pregame and postgame shows for two seasons and joining Fox Sports’ “Undisputed” talk show in 2023, Sherman’s arrest raises questions about his professional commitments. However, Fox declined to comment on the arrest, citing it as too early to provide further details.

The ex-NFL star is scheduled for his next court appearance on Wednesday.

Richard Sherman has twice admitted to DUI

Following his arrest, Richard Sherman reportedly admitted to consuming two margaritas before driving, as detailed in documents presented during his initial court appearance.

This isn’t the first instance of Sherman facing legal consequences related to driving under the influence. In 2022, he encountered charges of drunk driving and domestic disturbance following an incident where he crashed his vehicle into a construction zone and attempted to enter his in-laws’ residence near Seattle.

These legal entanglements highlight a recurring issue surrounding his behavior that has already infuriated the NFL fans.

As a prominent figure in NFL history, he has earned accolades for his contributions on the field. Being recognized as a member of the NFL’s all-decade team for the 2010s, he boasts an impressive resume, including five Pro Bowl selections and three first-team All-Pro honors as a defensive back.

Throughout his career, Sherman has demonstrated his prowess with 37 interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns, along with forcing five fumbles and recovering seven, all while accumulating 495 tackles across 144 games, and 136 starts.

Nevertheless, his off-field issues may be on the way to removing his name from the hearts of NFL fans as a once-on-field hero.
