Roman Reigns Cancer: Is the WWE superstar still suffering from leukemia?

Roman Reigns has been reigning for 1274 days and is scheduled for a match with Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. The Big Dog was last seen in SmackDown and did not attend the Elimination Chambers event in Perth.

He is one of the strongest wrestlers in WWE, and back in 2018, the ‘Head of the Table’ made the big announcement of his being diagnosed with leukemia. Although he got treated for that later, some fans are wondering if Roman’s absence from the most premium events is related to his disease returning.

Is Roman Reigns’ cancer still affecting him?

Roman Reigns spoke about the deadly disease he’s been suffering since he was 22 years old. In 2018, he revealed the battle he’s been fighting for the first time. ‘The Tribal Chief’, who was the Universal Champion at that time, relinquished his title to go on a 4-month hiatus for better treatment.

He said, “It’s a lie because the reality is, my real name is Joe (Roman’s real name) and I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years and unfortunately it’s back. And because the leukemia is back I cannot fulfill my role, I can’t be that fighting champion, and I’m going to have to relinquish my Universal Championship”.

‘The Big Dog’ made his grand comeback in 2019 and announced his cancer was in remission. Naturally, fans were happy with the news and wished to see the 38-year-old superstar in the ring more often. In 2020 Payback, Roman Reigns joined hands with Paul Heyman to win back The Universal Championship.

Following the pandemic, Reigns has reduced his WWE appearances. From making an appearance in one premium event to skipping another, Roman successfully defended his titles only 4 times in 2023. Fans were surprised by the limited appearances of ‘The Tribal Chief’; some fans even claimed Reigns’ cancer was still affecting him, and although it was never stated why he was gone most of the time, WWE has made it clear that the ‘Head of the Table’ does not play by normal rules.

Although Roman Reigns’ current health condition is unknown, fans are hoping the master of ‘Spear’ will remain healthy for a long time and even if he goes on a hiatus, he at least breaks Hulk Hogan’s record for holding a world title.

What type of cancer did Roman Reigns suffer from?

Roman Reigns revealed a few years back that he is suffering from leukemia. Specifically, chronic myeloid leukemia, or the CML version of leukemia. Although the “Leader of the Bloodline” experienced a disease remission, the news shocked the wrestling community, and it is still possible that the disease will return in the future.

Roman has been a big contributor to campaigns related to cancer. After he got cleared of the illness, he started to support others who were suffering from the same condition. Leukemia is a cancer that affects people of all age groups. There are four main types of cancer: ALL, AML, CLL, and CML. And ‘The Tribal Chief’ has a clear mission of helping the people to the best of his ability.
