Although he has faced less controversy nowadays due to his impactful reign as The Tribal Chief, there was a time when he was accused of sabotaging a spot in a women’s division match just because he wanted to perform in the same spot.
Roman Reigns once allegedly sparked backstage drama with top female star
Roman Reigns has always been prone to backstage controversy, ever since his debut in WWE. One such incident took place during the 2020 Survivor Series PLE: a 5 vs. 5 women’s elimination match between Team SmackDown and Team Raw. In Team Raw, Lana and Nia Jax were participants. The match was iconic, but there was some part that got excluded as Roman got involved in the creative plans of the match.
Many reports claimed that Roman Reigns cut a major table spot from the women’s match, which was previously planned by Lana and Nia to perform. He halted this spot because he was going to perform that during his match against Drew McIntyre that night. Previously, many reports claimed that Nia Jax and the Tribal Chief got into an argument regarding that table spot backstage.

In 2023, Nia was asked in an interview regarding that argument and table spot. She happily admitted that Lana was supposed to perform that spot until the last moment, when creative changes happened. After that, she was directly asked if Roman was involved in answering, to which she said “Who knows” in a sarcastic way. This indicates the involvement of the Head of the Table.

Nia Jax and Roman Reigns are from the same family. Both superstars have a deep-rooted connection with Samoan heritage. Nia and Reigns are from the famous Anoa’i family.
