Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes official for WrestleMania 40, but where does that leave The Rock?

On SmackDown, fans were enraged when The Rock abruptly challenged Roman Reigns to WrestleMania 40. WWE said they would address the matter during their Las Vegas press conference. Before the conference, the main event matchup for WM 40 seemed to be set between Roman Reigns and The Rock. Cody Rhodes did throw a curveball, though.

Cody Rhodes will probably get another chance to finish his story after the press meeting. Even though The Rock and Roman Reigns didn’t want Rhodes to come back, fans were thrilled to see Rhodes return on the WrestleMania poster. It remains to be seen, then, what thrilling announcements this event may bring to WWE fans.

Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes officially set for WrestleMania 40

Set to take place in Philadelphia, USA, on April 6th and 7th, 2024, WrestleMania 40 is preparing to be a historic event. Roman Reigns nominated The Rock to face him at the highly anticipated opening event. Dissatisfied supporters, meanwhile, shouted things like “We want Cody” and “Rocky sucks.”

During the pre-WrestleMania news conference, Cody Rhodes stepped in to take a shot at his title match against Roman Reigns. Cody refused to back down in the face of Reigns’ insults about Rhodes’ father and instead challenged Reigns to a rematch for the uncontested WWE Universal Title that Cody had earned at the 2024 Royal Rumble.

An intense argument took place as Cody openly proclaimed his desire to face Reigns, while emotions grew as The Rock seemed to support Reigns. The Rock then walked up to Triple H and demanded that he resolve the issue.

At the end of the press conference, an angle was put forward that suggested Rhodes and Rollins and Rock and Reigns would face off in a tag team match; however, it is still unknown whether this event would take place at Elimination Chamber or WrestleMania.

What’s next for The Rock after Rhodes vs Reigns for WM40?

A shocking move by Cody Rhodes occurred at a WrestleMania kickoff event in Las Vegas when he challenged Roman Reigns to the title match at WrestleMania 40. A match between The Rock and Reigns had been highly anticipated, but fans came together to support Cody in the fight.

Speculation arose when The Rock hinted at a long-term plotline and teased a possible matchup between himself and Reigns. But Thursday’s show basically made Rhodes vs. Reigns the official contest, so it seems like WWE is listening to what fans want.

At the presser, things got worse when Reigns made fun of Rhodes’ late father, which made Cody defend his family’s history. In a move that seemed to be a heel turn, The Rock slapped Cody, further escalating the situation and showing his support for Reigns.

Certain rumors suggest that Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes will team up against The Rock in a tag team fight before WrestleMania. Reigns, however, chooses to stay silent during the whole drama, possibly strategizing to protect his championship title.

If a feud between The Rock and Rhodes materializes after their latest clash for the WrestleMania main event, Reigns might retain his title while Cody’s storyline could be cut short. The unexpected turns have fans intrigued about the WrestleMania showdown.

One question has been answered, but another one about Rock vs. Cody comes up again. What is your take on the WrestleMania 40 kickoff event? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Oh, hi, this is Md Robin Ahmed, a WWE fan and I everyday go through a slew of popular WWE stories on Sportszion. Watching Big Show's Showstopper was the beginning of my passion for WWE, though I have to say that his Chokeslam is not one of my favorite moves. Over time, my love for professional wrestling has intensified, mostly due to the Shield, and my all-time favorite wrestler in WWE is Big Dog. I would give everything to be able to be within a few feet of him to witness his iconic Superman Punch and Spear. My major is engineering, but I'm most happy when I'm doing something artistic that doesn't put me under any pressure. Watching them wrestle and discuss their matches is always fun for me. And I've finally discovered a career that gives me fun since it allows me to with my dream heroes lifestyle. So, Welcome! I'd love to hear from you on LinkedIn and Facebook.
