Roy Keane was an absolute beast when he played for Manchester United. The Irish pundit only ever played for four clubs professionally but spent most of his career playing for Manchester United under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson. In his punditry career, Keane is the biggest critic of his former club, and he doesn’t hold back when sharing his opinion.
Keane’s latest criticism came after Manchester United defeated Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup yesterday, with Marcus Rashford being the subject of his critique. Although United emerged as 2-0 victors over the League One side, Keane was not impressed with Rashford’s performance.
Roy Keane drops bold claim on Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford was United’s highest goalscorer in all competitions last season, with the academy graduate scoring 30 goals for the club, helping them finish third in the league with a Carabao Cup trophy to show for it. However, it’s been a nightmare season for the 26-year-old, as he’s struggled to maintain his form from last season.
Rashford has only managed to score two league goals this season, and fans might argue that it’s been due to the poor form of the club, but he’s simply performed below his usual standards this season.
Roy claimed that Rashford has developed some bad habits at the club, which may be hindering his performances this season. However, Rashford did manage to get an assist, as he laid off the ball for Diogo Dalot to score a curler in the first half of the game.
“I just wanted a bit more today,” Keane said about Rashford’s performance against Wigan. “I have high expectations of Rashford; I always want a bit more. He’s played a game here, getting shots away. He’s got, I think, one or two bad habits where he’s stopping and trying the flick at the wrong time. I don’t think he runs in behind enough.”
Roy Keane slams Man Utd star despite FA Cup win vs Wigan
Marcus Rashford wasn’t the only one on the end of some strong criticism from Roy Keane. Summer signing Rasmus Hojlund also got some criticism for his performance, with his lack of goals continuing to be a concern for everyone associated with the club.
The club spent a fortune to acquire Hojlund from Atalanta last summer, and the Danish striker has only scored six goals in over 20 appearances for the club, something Roy Keane quickly pointed out.
“We wanted to show a different side of their game tonight, but they’ve brought their habits from the Premier League into tonight in terms of missing chances and not being clinical. With the striker, he is missing chances. They’re creating chances; just put it in the back of the net, stop messing about,” the former United captain said.
