Saquon Barkley injury update: reviewing the latest clinical notes on Giants’ RB

The regular season for the New York Giants began with a devastating 40-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. However, in their second game, Saquon Barkley’s team slowly but surely fought its way back from behind and defeated the Arizona Cardinals by a slim margin.

Unfortunately, Barkley’s injury threw a shadow over the Giants’ 21-point rally. The veteran player has a long history of injuries, including a ruptured ACL that forced him to miss much of the 2020 season; hence, the injury is undoubtedly a major issue for the squad.

Saquon Barkley injury update

By leading the club with six catches out of the backfield and leading his team with 23 offensive touches at the time of his injury, Saquon Barkley helped the Giants overturn a 20-point halftime deficit.

After a clumsy landing on a tackle in the fourth quarter, Saquon Barkley injured his ankle. Barkley required assistance to limp off the field, making it obvious that he was in discomfort. He reportedly had negative ankle X-rays, and now he will get an MRI on Monday in Arizona to ascertain the extent of the damage.

The Pro Bowl running back, who played 65 of 67 offensive snaps (97%), had 17 rushes for 63 yards and six receptions for 29 yards on Sunday but refused to provide details on the injury.

The running back’s time in the NFL was severely hampered by ankle injuries, as he missed four games in 2021 due to a left ankle ailment and three in 2019 due to a right ankle problem.

Giants position Matt Breida as Saquon Barkley’s replacement

The Giants were expected to bounce back with a “blowout” performance by NFL analyst Chris Broussard, and in their second game, they were able to meet both the analyst’s and the team’s supporters’ expectations. However, Barkley’s injury turned the Giants’ season into a nightmare.

Saquon’s injury created a chance for Matt Breida, who quickly replaced Barkley when he was hurt. In their Sunday game, Breida only carried the ball once for five yards and did not receive any targets in the passing game.

The door appears to be open for Breida to take over as the team’s starter on Thursday since Barkley reportedly won’t be able to make it to the Giants’ upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers.

However, Matt had just three touches in their embarrassing defeat to the Cowboys; as a result, his performance and capacity to help the Giants defeat Brock Purdy’s unstoppable team this season will be of considerable concern to all.
