Scott McTominay unexpectedly rescued Manchester United from another potential humiliation by scoring two late goals to secure a 2-1 victory against Brentford. He came on as a substitute in the 87th minute and delivered two crucial goals in extra time, earning the Red Devils a much-needed three points.
Manchester United has been struggling this season, currently sitting in 10th place with just 12 points, and they are also at the bottom of their Champions League group. McTominay’s timely heroics provided a welcome boost for the team.

McTominay explained why he performed so good for the team yesterday. He revealed that he got a source of motivation before the game from a familiar source. The Scottish midfielder had watched former United legend David Beckham’s recent Netflix documentary named ‘Beckham’.
In the documentary, he witnessed a key period of United in the 1990s under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, which saw the club experience great success. They had won many trophies in that period to become one of the best teams in the world at the time. It inspired in McTominay to experience the same success himself.

McTominay’s current contract ends in 2025
Despite his recent performance, Scott McTominay has not played that much this season, making only six appearances, mainly as a substitute with only around 206 minutes played. Out of the six matches, he has only started in two.
The midfielder was expected to leave the club this summer, with the club preferring other players. Both the loan deal of Sofyan Amrabat and the rise of teenage sensation Hannibal Mejbri left Scott way down in the midfield. This led to the club wanting to part ways with him this summer.
Both Fulham and West Ham tried to bring him in, with the latter almost completing the deal on deadline day. However, McTominay refused to leave, which also lead to Fulham not allowing Joao Palhinha to move to Bayern Munich.
His contract at the club runs until 2025, so he has two more years left. However, United may still want to cash in on him as early as this January transfer window. Scott McTominay on the other hand is determined to stay and fight for his place.
He will have his chance to prove his worth in the next match as United face Sheffield United away on Sunday.
