Seahawks QB Geno Smith’s complaint to NFL ref Alex Kemp prompts hilarious mic-up answer

The Seattle Seahawks were looking to go 1-1 after going down to the Los Angeles Rams in their season-opening match. However, the mighty squad led by Geno Smith didn’t stumble in the back-to-back match and won their first game of the season by going 37-31 against the Detroit Lions.

Smith did his part for the squad by recording 32 of 41 for 328 yards along with two touchdown passes. Though the quarterback might be happy now after ensuring a victory in their Week 2 game, he wouldn’t surely forget the embarrassing mic-up answer from referee Alex Kemp.

Early in the fourth quarter, Smith dropped back to pass and fired a ball from the pocket toward the end zone, aiming at wide receiver Tyler Lockett. However, some miscommunication happened on the offensive side of the ball, and Lockett was not in the area. The consequence led the QB to get flagged for intentional grounding.

The dual-threat tried to talk with Kemp following the incident, who had already started to announce the penalty to the Ford Field crowd and Fox TV viewers. Kemp didn’t like to be disrupted by the footballer, and avoided him while saying, “I’m talking to America here, excuse me.”

Nevertheless, the incident couldn’t be a huge blow for Seattle, as it ended with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Zeno to his WR. The duo later connected on a phenomenal touchdown in overtime as well to ensure victory for their team.

NFL world reacts to ref Alex Kemp’s intentional grounding call

According to NFL rules, intentional grounding is set to be called when a signal-caller faces pressure that leads him to throw a forward pass without a real chance of completion. However, that didn’t happen in Geno’s case, and hence, the NFL community couldn’t help slamming the referee for his controversial call.

A fan wrote,”Worst intentional grounding call in NFL history, insane.”

Some fans even raised the debated racism issue following the incident while saying the 32-year-old star got flagged because of white privilege.

A person wrote,” A disgusting display of white privilege and how Europe Men behave.”

Besides Smith, Seattle coach Pete Carroll was also seen losing his cool following the call. The veteran was shown for a few seconds on the broadcast when he said, “He ran the wrong route”. Though the incident was serious, some fans loved seeing the coach’s instant reaction.
