Sean Payton delivers clear message to players after Broncos’ comeback bid falls short to Jets

The Denver Broncos started the new season with new hope after having a disastrous season last year, keeping the new head coach Sean Payton at the helm. But, misfortune decided to follow them this season as well.

After facing three consecutive defeats until week 3, the Broncos secured their only win of the season against the Chicago Bears in week 4. This victory boosted their confidence, but they couldn’t maintain the momentum and suffered their fifth loss against the New York Jets in week 5. Following this series of losses, the Denver Broncos became embroiled in trade talks. Now, Payton has come forward to provide clear statements regarding those rumors

Sean Payton asserts Broncos’ stance on trade talks

Just a few days ago, on October 8th, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Broncos are reportedly considering trading pass-rusher Frank Clark, who had previously suffered a hip injury and had only played one game. Furthermore, the NFL trade deadline, known as the ‘Halloween trade deadline,’ is set for October 31. Considering Denver’s ongoing struggles, it is anticipated that they will actively seek potential trade partners to offload players from their roster.”

However, Payton affirmed that nothing like this is going to happen saying he regularly has conversations with general manager George Paton while indicating their decision regarding not bidding adieu to any players soon.

“George and I talk every day, three, four times a day. We’re not looking to do business with any of our players. That doesn’t prevent teams from calling. We pick the phone up but that’s where it’s at.”

Meanwhile, the rumor swirled less than a week after Payton traded his offensive linebacker Randy Gregory and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick. Later, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed and said Gregory passed his physical while saying he might be able to play, donning the 49ers jersey after Week 5.

Broncos suffer heartbreaking loss to Jets

In the Broncos’ week 5 loss to the Jets, they started the game on a positive note, taking a 7-3 lead in the first quarter. However, they couldn’t maintain their momentum and were forced into four 3-and-outs, as well as a lost fumble. Denver bounced back on third down with an incredible 23-yard field goal from Wil Lutz, taking a 10-5 lead before extending it to 13-8 by the end of the first half.

Payton’s team successfully held their opponents to field goals rather than touchdowns, albeit Gang Green still managed a 24-13 lead with 7:27 to play, and finished the campaign with a 31-21 victory to move up to 2-3 while the Broncos are 1-4. Their quarterback Russell Wilson completed 20 out of 31 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns.

Denver could have made it to their consecutive victories, but their control of the ball still lacks efficiency. Having the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs as their upcoming rival in week 6, can they be able to ensure their second victory? What do you think? Tell us in the comments.
