Sean Strickland has attracted a lot of controversy with his outspoken remarks, which have often come across as homophobic and misogynistic. Moreover, he has also stirred controversy with his actions outside the octagon, assaulting Dricus du Plessis in the stands of UFC 296 and sparring with influencer Sneako at the UFC PI.
The former UFC middleweight champion has always been very skeptical of social media influencers and has made it known publicly. Now, he has posted a video on social media to express his thoughts. See what it is below.
Sean Strickland goes off on social media influencers
Controversial streamer Sneako was bloodied up by Sean Strickland in a sparring session at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas that even got Sneako banned by the UFC. Many, including UFC commentator Joe Rogan, UFC CEO Dana White, and influencers, were very much against Strickland’s actions and it has made the middleweight respond on social media.
“It bothers them because they want to be special. They want me to be special. You go look at sporting events, you go look when they eat dinner, they are treated like they are special… And they want you guys to know that you’re not special,” said Strickland. He started a rant on the post as he highlighted what he felt was the character of influencers all across the world and their perception of common people.
“They want you guys to know that when you’re sitting in that nosebleed seat, you’re not special, even though you are the motherfucker that finances this sport. They want you guys to know that you suck,” Strickland further said of influencers and their character and perception.
“What bothers them the fucking most is I tell them they’re not special. What I tell them is they’re just a bunch of cunts behind a camera. Fuck these people,” Strickland concluded the rant, stating the reason he felt why he got backlash for sparring with Sneako.
Sean Strickland forces random guy to tap out
Sean Strickland lost the middleweight title to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297 but that has not stopped him from enjoying life outside. Strickland went skiing and, as fate would have it, got the chance to grapple with a fellow skier in the snow.
As expected, the skier did not have much of a chance against Strickland, and to make matters worse, he was smaller than the former UFC champion. In the grappling session, Strickland easily obtained a front headlock, quickly took his opponent’s back, and forced a tap after a brutal face crank; similar to the way Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor at UFC 229.
Strickland spoke of it in a recent social media post. “When I go and wrestle a guy fucking on the ski slopes, that is fucking awesome, man. I love the fact that you woke up, you went snowboarding, you see me, you said, ‘I want to fight this man.’ I fucking love it. I respect it,” Strickland said what he felt about the man’s decision to spar him in the snow.
Strickland’s upcoming fight in the UFC is not yet decided but rumors are that a fight with either Khamzat Chimaev or Robert Whittaker is in the works. Chimaev, a former training partner, called out Strickland’s macho man act.
