Seth Rollins injury led WWE to ditch plans for Australian star at Elimination Chamber

It has been revealed that Seth Rollins had original plans for the Elimination Chamber before he got injured. Last Saturday, WWE went to Perth, Australia, to host the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event. The event marked the final stop on the road to WrestleMania, with over 50,000 people in attendance at Optus Stadium to watch the WWE event.

Two Elimination Chamber matches took place, with Drew McIntyre and Becky Lynch earning WrestleMania opportunities for Raw’s top championships. Lynch will battle Rhea Ripley, who retained her Women’s World Title against Nia Jax in the main event, while McIntyre will face Seth Rollins. However, Rollins was medically disqualified and did not defend his World Heavyweight Champion title in Australia.

Original plan for Seth Rollins at WWE Elimination Chamber

At the Elimination Chamber 2024 Premium Live Event, WWE’s Australian stars had a significant presence. On “The Grayson Waller Effect,” Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins appeared as guests. Indi Hartwell teamed up with Candice LeRae to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. In the main event, Rhea Ripley, who was born in Australia, successfully defended her WWE Women’s World Championship against Nia Jax, another Australian wrestler.

In that event, one wrestler was noticeably absent despite gaining momentum in recent weeks. Bronson Reed had planned to participate but had to remain in the United States as his wife gave birth earlier than expected. If Reed had been able to travel to his home country, he would have been part of a major championship match. Reed shared this news on Twitter.

Recently, “Fightful Select” reported that there were plans for Bronson Reed to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. These plans were hinted at earlier in the year when Reed started talking about targeting a champion.

However, Rollins picked up a knee injury in his “WWE Raw” title match with Jinder Mahal, so he wouldn’t be able to compete in Perth. Even if Reed’s wife hadn’t given birth, those plans had to be scrapped. Reed was willing to travel to Perth to compete in some capacity before the birth of his child, but everything ended up working out for the best.

Update on Seth Rollins’ recovery

During WWE Elimination Chamber 2024, Cody Rhodes was a guest on “The Grayson Waller Effect” show. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins appeared on the show and was asked by Waller about his preferred winner for the Men’s Elimination Chamber match. However, Rollins did not answer the question directly. Instead, he teased the audience by saying that he had a scoop.

“I am just days away from being medically cleared to compete, Whoever wins that Chamber match coming up [and] goes on to WrestleMania to take a crack at my World Heavyweight Championship, they don’t stand a chance!” said Seth Rollins.

During a WWE segment, Seth Rollins announced his tag team partner, Waller, but Austin Theory, who was Waller’s tag team partner before, wasn’t impressed. Theory reacted with a sarcastic “Cool story, bro,” and started needling Rollins.

The situation escalated, and Rollins eventually threw Theory into a GWE sign in the corner, followed by a Cody Cutter and a Stomp from the champion. The segment also included a challenge from The American Nightmare to The Rock, inviting him to participate in WrestleMania anytime between now and the event.

Rollins sustained an injury on the January 15th episode of Raw while defending his title against Jinder Mahal. The injury was revealed to be a Grade 2 MCL tear and a partially torn meniscus in his left knee, which previously put his participation in WrestleMania 40 in doubt. However, Rollins has now confirmed that he is fully recovered and ready to make his return to the ring.
