NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal’s ex-wife Shaunie Henderson recently shared some important advice for her daughter Me’Arah that she should pay attention to. Shaq and Shaunie were one of the most popular basketball couples of their time.
However, things did not go right between them and they ended up separating after being married for around nine years. They had four children together and Shaunie’s recent advice is for the youngest one of their children.
Shaunie Henderson wants Me’Arah O’Neal to ditch WNBA
Shaquille O’Neal’s ex-wife and mother of her youngest daughter Me’Arah O’neal recently shared some important advice for her daughter. She insisted that the youngest O’Neal should focus on staying in college and abort any plans that include the WNBA for now.
She shared this advice in a brief interview with TMZ, where she also talked about other things. “For all the women, for sure. Hold on to your college career and all that NIL money,” said Shaunie Henderson (formerly O’Neal) when asked about her opinion on staying in school being a better career path.
Shaunie highlighted the disparity between the wages of athletes in the NBA and the wages of athletes in the WNBA. She reportedly said, “They are not paying the women the same way they pay the men. It is nowhere near. The more I look into the matter, the more I see that the WNBA players are doing a lot of other things just to earn that kind of money.”
Later on, she emphasized that women in college should go down the college basketball path and cash in on the NIL money instead of opting for the WNBA.
Shaq’s regret about ending relationship with Shaunie
Shaquille O’Neal and Shaunie Henderson were one of the most talked about couples in the basketball community when they were married together. However, their relationship came to an abrupt end because of Shaq’s “mistakes.” It is not fully revealed what those mistakes were, but people speculate that Shaq was having an affair outside of his wedlock which caused his marriage to fall apart. Shaunie went forward in her life and is now happily married to pastor Keion Henderson.
Shaq had openly talked about his regrets for letting his relationship end with Shaunie Henderson. “Shaunie was also a perfect woman and I messed it up,” said Shaq, expressing his regrets. He also revealed that he is now happy for her and has accepted her life decisions. However, he affirmed that even though she is not his wife, he will always be there to protect, love, and provide for her. Shaunie, on the other hand, went a little wild after her divorce and before marrying the Paston. An incident revealed by Luce Cannon made her a sugar mommy to Cannon.
