Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s Portuguese star midfielder, has emerged as one of their standout players since making his €80 million move to Old Trafford in 2019. Eventually, he was given the captaincy, but the player has faced scrutiny over his performance in the job of skipper.
Despite severe criticism over his leadership role and lack of discipline on the pitch, Fernandes has been influential for the Red Devils on the pitch with his performance. Following the recent Blue Card Rule announcement, the midfielder has been trolled for his unwanted records.
Bruno Fernandes gets roasted over Blue Card’ introduction
It was back at the 1970 FIFA World Cup that the concept of cards was introduced to the game for the first time, revolutionizing the sport. Recently, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) announced plans to roll out a new ‘blue card’ system, introducing a sin bin for certain offenses.
The blue card will be used to temporarily send players to the sidelines for 10 minutes before allowing them to re-enter and resume play. It will be shown to players who dissent against officials or commit certain tactical fouls, and it is expected to replace the current yellow card system.
The Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was roasted by fans on the internet over the new Blue Card due to his reputation for frequently getting booked in games. A fan wrote, “Bruno Fernandes Blue Card on every single bet builder I ever do,” showing their conviction that Bruno would receive a blue card suspension so frequently they would bet on it.
Another fan added, “Bruno Fernandes will be the most affected player if the Blue card is introduced,” in his tweet.
“Bruno Fernandes would get a blue card every week for dissent,” a third user stated while retweeting the post.
Another user tweeted a clip with the caption, “Bruno Fernandes on his way to the FIFA headquarters to protest against the blue card 🟦 rule.”
Bruno tops unwanted list in the Premier League
Currently on trial at the grassroots level, the blue card system could make its way up to the English Premier League if successful. However, players like Bruno Fernandes, known for frequently receiving yellow cards, might hope otherwise, given the Portuguese international’s reputation.
The 29-year-old leads the charts for receiving bookings, often for displaying dissent and letting his frustration show on the pitch. Since the start of the 2022–23 season, he has accumulated a total of ten bookings, including four in this campaign alone, resulting in his missing an important fixture against Liverpool.
